Good EDC Slippie?

How about a nice slimline trapper?

Queen has some nice single blades in D2 or 1095 in their newer queen city line. Both USA made. Maybe a little more on the traditional side than you want though

i am reading the replies and acknowledge the fact that my options are limited. however, i feel that if i can find out about little known knives in a small market as you said, it'd be here. i am just accentuating the point of what i want so i don't keep getting the same suggestions.

Look for some of the custom makers towards the end. Some of them make one blade models and use material like CPM 154, micarta, and carbon fiber. But they still tend to look somewhat traditional... you might be able to have them make something to your liking.

Possibly a little too "traditional" for your tastes, but may I suggest a Case Rough Black Slimline Trapper. The shape is traditional but I feel the black handles (G10, I think) and the silver coloured blades have a very modern look.
108mm closed (4¼"), 82mm blade (3¼").
Alternatively, check out the BOKER PLUS EXSKELI MOOR I. I think it has a clean, modern look.

That exskelimoore is great. thank you for pointing it out. i think im going to get the smaller version.

Fallkniven U1. Modern look, screwed together, powder steel, not one hand opening but very smooth walk and talk. very unagresive look. More expensive than your limit though.

Lone wolf city knife is another one with very modern slipjoint traditional looks.

Is a 'traditional' lockback viable? I could understand a Buck 110 Folding Hunter being a tad large - maybe even the 112 Ranger - but a 55 - or even a 501 Squire or 503 Prince, both having nickel silver in place of the brass bolsters, should be innocuous enough even for NY's finest. My 503 is a 'dress up' or 'gent's knife' to me. If you are one handed, opening will be a problem. Of course, I may have been born in Brooklyn, but I've lived down here for quite a while. In Alabama, a ZT-302 would be a good Sunday go-to-meeting knife!

Now, if it's a real 'traditional slippie' you want, look at Boker Tree Brand - the real CS bladed 'classics', like the copperhead, trapper, canoe, etc, are still being made in Solingen - and available via evilbay for $25-$70. I buy American when I can - but recall my Dad's old 'Tree Brand' pocket knives - and have bought a selection of same - they are nice - and still affordable - in modern scales or bone.

For the same purpose when visiting places like NY, I was considering a Queen Copperhead.
It is an alternative to the Spydercos. It has a beefy D2 blade and the right size.
The only other options are Spydercos - that I am aware of. That is, if you want good steel and don't want to spend lots more money.

thanks for the great replies! NirreBoss, the U1 is one of my considerations...although as you said, a bit expensive. also, that boker exskelimoore Havokk mentioned looks very good too! Stainz, 0302 for a "gents" folder, gotta love it :D thanks again guys and keep the suggestions comming!

Boker Exskelimoor is NOT a slipjoint, it's a liner lock. Fallkniven U1 is not a slipjoint either, it's a lockback.

you are right. after looking more, the boker is liner lock. however, the u1 is not. the u2 is. thats probably what you're thinking of.
