Good knife brands that are cheap?

In addition to some of the brands already mentioned, check out RealSteel Knives. In the sub-$50 category they offer some really nice knives...although it looks like they're beginning to creep upward in price.

I'm gonna toss out the Ka-Bar Dozier models. I don't own any but I've only heard good things about them. AUS 8 steel and ambidextrous carry options with tried and true back locks. I'd say they're worth checking out.

Buck makes decent folders

it seems like every 110 i encounter has the last quarter-inch of the tip broken off. Is that just my weird luck, or is that design known to have a problem with this?
Mine broke down near the base when i foolishly lent it to a roommate who used it as a crowbar

Unless I missed it, there have been a lot of brands recommended, but nobody has asked you what kind of knife you're looking for.

What do you want to use it for?
Do you have a blade length or overall size preference?
What makes a steel "good" in your opinion?
Do you sharpen your knives regularly?
Delicate or hard-use?
Is rust a concern?
Does is need to be one-handed opening?
One blade or multiple?
What do you think looks good?

I'll probably gonna get my head chopped off for bringing this up, but maybe take a look at some Gerbers

Of all the budget knives I've handled, spyderco takes the cake.

Excellent steels and fit and finish for the price.
Sure they're are many budget knives that may be better, but spyderco is an easy answer.

Many great and really cheap brands I know, like SanRenMu, Enlan, Kershaw etc. BUT the best cheap-brand knives I've ever had are GANZO. So many discussions about their clones and replicas you can find but it doesn't metter when you feel it in you hand. So damn high quality and silly-low cost. I have G720 (cool well-built knife), G727 (love its shape of handle). I think I'll get one more couple of Ganzo knives soon. Will they be good? Will see.

Maybe a little more pricey but AG Russell has a lot of knives under their own brand, most made in China, but good quality, and decent steel. I got gun stock lock back and locking Barlow.

I think this would be better phased as good knife brands that make inexpensive knives. There are plenty of good examples listed so far. I'd say check out Buck, Case and Kershaw. Good brands that offer inexpensive choices...

Spyderco Byrd series of knives are a great bang for the buck, IMHO. I like their Raven 2 which is very similar to their much more expensive Para Military 2 knife.

To most of us here, it does matter. Just cant ignore that whole "theft" thing.

When the Byrd line is available, why would anyone want, or need, an obviously ripped off design?
To the OP.....check out Spydie's Byrd line. You will definitely find what you need for the price you want to pay.....and they are solid well built knives......not fake garbage.

Agree, as many said, the Byrd line is hard to beat for a budget friendly folder, they come in very different shapes, sizes and handle materials.
My personal pic is the Cara Cara 2 FRN, a "cheaper" Endura, if you will, that will outslice 90% of the folders in the modern market and perform every tasks you ask within reasonable use.

Lightweight and thin, too!

Byrd
Kershaw
Real Steel

With Kershaw you can pick up some US made "Blem" knives for under $40 with Sandvik 14c28n steel which IMO is a little bit of an upgrade over the China 8cr13(14)mov. Real Steel also sells Sandvik 14c28n knives in the $40-$50 range (H6-S1), China made but solid quality.

The CARA CARA is a classic knife. Here is a good video about it.

Check it out.

The problem is not with the design; the problem is user error. The tip on the 110 is very fine, and therefore delicate. And the entire blade is ground to a thin edge, which is intended strictly for cutting applications. It's only common sense that when someone uses it to pry with, or as a crowbar, it can break pretty easily.

There are many good quality but inexpensive options out there. It all depends on which one(s) appeals to you and serves your own purposes better.

So far, I've had good (though limited) luck with kilimanjaro gear, don't hear much about them, but their "vertice" can be had for around $15.
