Good Knife shop in New York City

Used to be Meriden Gun Shop.

They always have a dozen Randalls, etc... and tons of folders. Last time I was there, they must have had 500 knives.

But, while it's a great store, the OP asked about NYC. Even hauling it up the Hutch/Merritt, you've got a solid 90 minute drive to Meriden from NYC.

I am totally willing to take a drive to Connecticut. I know NYC is a bad knife town. Thanks for all the posts. 500 knives in one place sounds like heaven, cant wait. I might be playing hookie from work this week to visit the constitution state

There's also one of those big Swiss Army shops in "The Westchester" mall up in White Plains (on the same floor as the food court, probably why I stumbled on it). BIG selection of production knives, including a really relatively large selection of William Henry's. They also have clocks, watches and Swiss Army clothing. All of the knives there are at MSRP. But it is just about the only place I've found where I can actually see a good selection of knives. Have to get up to Connecticut and check out those places...

Thanks Anthony and Tombstone. Just wish this thread had started a week or two earlier as I was in Wallingford and drove back to Jersey via 95, right through the Greenwich area :grumpy: Ahhh well, next time!

That store is the one that used to be in Connecticut , I think it's run by an Elsener .

The Trader?
On WBway and Canal?
They were still there as of 2 months ago (IIRC)
A little pricey IMHO.

Not much to add, except for

American Outdoor Sports
Rt 110 in Farmingdale.
(about a 40 minute drive from Manhattan, barring traffic)

Ebbtide, despite going in to the place at least a hundred times over the years I don't recall the name, but that's about the right spot. Thanks, I'll mosey down there.

It's off topic but there are one or two plastics and sort of hardware stores right near there that are pretty unusual and may have things for geardos, too :)

JohnG, you must be referring to the old Squadron Headquarters A& N store at the end of Canal. They are long gone. Its multi story builiding doesn' t seem to have been occupied since.

If in the boro of Brooklyn, NYC try 86St. Treasures at 86 St. and 19th Ave. Good blades (Spydie, BM, Kershaw, Buck, Gerber, Puma, Boker, etc), cheap blades, martial arts stuff, military uniforms, patches, zippos, the regular.

Thanks, Nakano. That's the one I was thinking of in Manhattan, a really atmospheric place, the sort of independent business that seems to be dying out in the city and replaced by chain after chain.

Every now and then I'll remember one of the older "gift" type stores in the Times Square area--tons of second rate blades and martial arts stuff but lots of hard to find books or training materials. There were several places in midtown where you could even find a good selection of the sort of books that you might find in a Paladin or Desert Pubs catalogs--all gone now.

And thanks for the the tip on the Brooklyn store--another place I've probably passed 100 times in the last decade or so. After years of my complaints about the shrinking bookstore market he took me to a *great* used place on a main avenue in Brooklyn...again, those that have eyes but do not see, right ;)

I'll also check to see if Kinji-San, the martial arts supply place, is still in business. It was on like Avenue N or M, not far off Flatbush and had some interesting stuff.

The owner of 86 St. Treasures was formerly from the now defunct Ceasars Bay Bazaar mall from yesteryear.

Haven' t seen Kenny from Kinji San for ages. His location was off Nostrand Ave. on Ave M.

BTW, it seems like the DA cannot make a case against Iceberg of SOHO A& N store for their alledged "bust" of "gravity" knives. From what I understand, the police at the location of the raid was trying their fullest to flick open almost every folder they could get their hands on. If they found it successful, they considered it a "gravity" knife. If this was the case, then it was a bogus bust.

Not too far from 86 St. Treasures there is D & F Brothers Sports Center at the cross of 79 St. and New Utrecht Ave. They are a big store geared towards hunting. Lots of clothing, archery stuff, firearms and knives- mostly better quality hunting fix blades such as Puma, Linder, Browning, Buck, etc.

Fantastic, N2--I only went to CBB once or twice but I miss the older large flea markets a lot, too. Englishtown and Pennsauken and Berlin NJ are still around but Caesar's was very unusual. I'll have to check these places out--much appreciated!

I know its an old thread, just wanted to share there are two great knife stores in NYC.

Mastersmiths - Mostly fixed blades, some folders, mostly higher end customs, famous names ect... Production as well. Prices are high, but thats normal for brick and mortar especially in NYC. Call ahead. He lives a block from the store.

Three Little Indians Custom Knives - Mostly folders. Again, like mastersmiths, higher end, some production. Cigar lounge as well. Call ahead to be sure Larry or someone is actually there.

Used to be one in Brooklyn too but it was sold and now closed.

*Edit*

Oh yea and NY Ironworks, police supply great prices for a brick and mortar, internet sales. OK selection, but good stuff. Gear and other stuff too (flashlights too).

All can be found by google and have websites.

Three Little Indians carries some great custom knives and productions. That would be the first place I would go to look around.
