Good large unintimidating folder?

The benchmade griptilian is dollar for dollar my sturdiest work knife (surprising). Not really intimidating with its basic black handle, but a colored handle will soften it up a bit. Good size and fine steel.

Sheesh the guy specifies that the knife must not look 'tactical' and people are recommending the Spyderco Military and Paramilitary 2?

I'm with those who immediately thought of the Endura in one of its nice friendly colour options. Great steel, great ergos (I'm 6'4" as well) at a good price.

I'm confused. How does an Endura look less "Tactical" than a Para2? Is it the FRN scales or the exposed tang when closed? Other than that, to a non-knife person I think they'd look pretty much the same. Nobody watching someone use it at work is going to know it has "military" in the name. I just like the Para2 better and don't, personally, find it as "intimidating"-looking as most Emersons and Striders. So I recommend it.

So it may not be your kind of knife but, I have used (recently bought a new) Case Sod Buster. It's fairly large and durable.

There's not usually a rhyme or reason to why some ppl don't like a knife. A black endura may seem intimidating to someone while another color may soften it up even tho at the end of the day it's the same knife. That's why I'm hoping cold steel comes with a pink espada xl!

Intimidating is in the eye of the beholder. Or in this case the sheep in the area.

Ain't that the truth . . . . a few years ago I gave a relative a Syderco Dragonfly with a 2.3" blade and a woman elementary teacher friend of theirs commented (in a negative way) about it when he used it for some small cutting task. (Of course, no one else had a knife.) Heck they go ape over GI Joe toy 'guns' a 1/4" long ! Well anyway, . . . getting back to the original posters question . . . .

People are generally clueless and unobservant. I don't know if many of them would know the difference between a traditional folder versus any other knife. To them, its just 'a knife'. I would go with something small and black with a black coated blade (not shiny like other blades). Its even better if it has a finger choil so that you can choke up on it, exposing little of the blade. You can pull it out, use it and put it back in your pocket before anyone even notices it. - - - Another strategy is to use a knife with a 'non intimidating color' such as yellow, lime green, etc. Though that may bring more attention than a black knife. In a time & place where many sheep consider a red Swiss Army knife as a 'weapon', its pretty idiotic at times. Best of luck

P.S. - to the original poster - you mentioned the CS AK47. I carry a large one all the time, terrific knife. If your boss is a knife guy, maybe you can get away with one at work or at least the small version. Youre going from the 3.9" blade Emerson to a 2 3/4" blade small AK. Just be discrete in using it. The all black color can help imo. If that doesnt work there's always the red Swiss Army knife.

A Benchmade Griptilian with a black handle and a partially serrated Sheepsfoot blade has been one of my edc's for the last year and I never have a problem with it.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but basically you're spending extra money to carry a blade you don't necessarily would choose for yourself, just so other people won't feel offended eventhough you're not breaking any laws.

How about you explain to them you're perfectly sane and that if you ever DO lose it you'll give them a 30 sec. head start :p

Benchmade Adamas tan.
Looks lika a big tool, especially after removing the black coat.

This is a big knife for large hands.. Wonderfully solid lockup... One of my very favorites...
Was made with the Rangers in mind...
