Good leather wallets?

I've been carrying a Louis Vuitton wallet for over 2 years now, and it still looks exactly the same as it did when I got it. Yes, it was a gift. It doesn't have the ghey logo all over it either.

I don't know what it's made out of- but it's tough as hell.

According to the webiste that is their Damier Graphite Canvas wallet which probably explains it being 'tough as hell'. That wallet will probably out live you and the next three generations in your family, LOL :)

I love yours and browsing I also like the Utah '6 Cards and Bill Holder' style. Instead of a vertical window flap it appears to be horizontal.

Thats just not my style. I want something that WILL wear well, and more brown-ish... Its not as flaming as I woulda thought though. Not leather? Booo

I am using the Stingray from Blade 07 right now.
I also have a Cape Buffalo from this seller on Ebay, that hide wears as well as the stingray.I can't say enough good things about either one of them.

Damn! I'm glad you posted. I'm almost definitely getting something from that store. Unique stuff at decent prices. I like the natural skin patterns, but theyre not too flagrant.

The Damier Graphite Florin wallet is lined with grained calf leather. I'm not sure what the outside is, but zoomed in it looks like leather, i could be wrong.

I'm really liking the style of this. I wonder what LV warranty is like. I wish someone would give me one as a gift!!!

I had the following wallet for the past 10 years, sans chain. It was so old it took on the appearance of a river pebble and the mud flap girls had long since departed to better environs. Not a stitch out of place on it to this day.

However, I recently upgraded to the following. While not leather, it instead seems to be made out of pure awesomeness. Also, it has a place for my bus pass:thumbup:

Haha! Good stuff.

I like both the new bifold and the redesigned passport wallet (has the card holders similar to the bifold now). My one question would be the impact of multiple cards against each other and the magnetic strips.

People always say two cards flat against each other for long periods destroys the strips...I dont know if thats true.

Thoughts anyone? With only four holders I imagine most people would ahve to double up in at least some of them.

I have used a Coach money clip with two card slots for at least a dozen years. The rear slot has had 3 mag-stripe cards in it the whole time. The front holds about fifteen cards as well (not all mag stripe, but many are). I have never had a problem with the mag stripes. Sometimes the lettering gets worn, but never an issue with the magnetic part.

Well, my order from Saddleback should arrive early next week with my two new wallets. Really looking forward to getting them, thanks again for this thread and all of the suggestions, I've been needing a replacement for my wallet for a while now, just hadn't found anything in the department stores, etc. that was to my liking.

Sorry to jump in late on this thread. I am Allen of Big Papa Leather.
There has been many truisms stated in this thread and finding a high quality wallet is a thing of joy ;)

There are many types of leathers, not only from exotics but in cowhide itself.
Although I have not handled the Saddleback leather from the appearance it looks to be a oil tanned or latigo type leather. This type of leather is often used on horse tack and hard use outdoor gear. It is either oil saturated or wax saturated. So for use in a wallet, yes it will durable and long lasting.

Exotic leathers such as ostrich, snake, eel and frog are cool leathers but really are not great for hard use. Elephant, shark and stingray, yup hard use and durable.

Alot of what I build is from tooling cowhide. The leather is thick, sturdy and durable. Another benefit is that it is tool-able. The leather can be carved, embossed, tooled and molded to create art or functionality. Generally the user will tire of the wallet before it wears out. Same stuff as saddles are made from.

Many folks suffer from the Wal-mart mentality. Use it and they toss it. That is fine for some folks. Variety is the spice of life. I understand that completely. However just like in a fine handcrafted knife, a high quality hand made wallet is a labor of love.

Occasionally we should spoil ourselves ;) A fine wallet or briefcase is a great gift to oneself. Just as a painstaking search and purchase of the perfect knife is a satisfying endeavor.

With a production wallet you are buying a set design. With a custom you have a bit of a say in the design, if tooled the artwork, and the pocket configuration. Again to some that is not a big deal. To some that is the deal.

I'd be honored if you looked over my stuff at Big Papa Leather
and possibly consider contacting me when you are ready to purchase your next wallet. I might not be the right fit for you, but I just might.
