Good Man......Richard J

+1....

Top guy for sure, and a knowledgeable asset to Blade Forums.

I just have to throw my hat in with my sincere respect for Richard J. He is a good man and has always been there to help when I have had a question. I think his contributions here go above and beyond. Thanks, Richard!

the paper wheels are that good but it also takes someone who knows how to use them to get the edges i do. i had some guys tell me they are getting their edges shaving sharp but nothing like some of the knives in my vids. the knives they mention are ones i make which have a chisel grind with a half convex edge. the steel i use is 1075 and heat treated by me.

one knife that amazes members who stop by is the one at this link. you can beat it as hard as you want on hard elm and it will still shave hair and push cut newspaper or free hanging newspaper. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=585930

I was introduced to paper wheel sharpening six or seven years ago. At that time, I was only aware of one maker using using this particular sharpening method. He was able to produce wicked, sharp edges on his knives.

Not long ago, I had a couple of knives that needed sharpening. Sad part, several makers failed at putting a good edge on them. Couldn't cut warm butter ring a bell? :D

Stumbled across richard j's work / claims and decided to give him a shot. When the two knives were returned (damn quick, I must add), I was extremely impressed with his work. Where others had failed, richard was able to put the desired scary, sharp edges on the knives. :D

are the paper wheels really that good? or is it your skills ?

I'd have to say. . . . . .both. :D

Thanks again to Richard for his continued advice. After talking with him today I learned something new about these dang wheels I didn't know before.
Makes my life easier for sure.

Well now that this thread has been brought back to life this year, guess it couldn't hurt to throw in my words at the end. Just got off the phone with Richard this afternoon. Gotta say I learned a decent little bit in a matter of minutes, and he didn't even try teaching me anything. Just chit chat. Real nice guy. I'll be dealing with him in the future for sure.
