I want to buy a good neck knife for self defense. Can you make any suggests ?

Thanks, function

The new Microtech Medallion neck-knife should be a winner.

I plan on buying one but I really have never felt the need for or considered the use for a "neck-knife".

It's not like reaching under a shirt for a knife is any harder than pulling one out of a pocket... but maybe I'm just crazy. :p

Welcome to the forums!
My favourite neck knife is the “ G1 Garm Fighter” manufactured by “Fällkniven”.
The “G1” is an exeptionally solid dagger with a high stabbing potential.

A lot of people wear as neck knives blades I've always thought were too long for such an application. Are they comfortable? For instance, my Stiff KISS obviously could be used as a neck knife, but seems just too long to me. Anyone else wear one that way?

Among my favorite neck knives is the Cold Steel Para-Edge. I've got one with an Americanized tanto blade; it came in a Kydex neck sheath complete with paracord.

The only neck knife I wear as "neck" knife is the Little Pup by Running dog - it is even smaller than the CS Paraedge. Other neck knives are too long (and heavy) for me so I made kydex belt loops for them and carry them on my belt.

David -- by kydex belt loops, do you mean the neck knife hangs on its cord from the belt loop? Or is it attached some other way? I'm trying to picture the rig. (You wouldn't have any pictures of it, would you?)

Hi Function...

A neck knife can actually be any knife you want to use for the purpose...

I have many neck knives I carry,,everything from an AG Russell Woodswalker, Buck Mini Mentor, Fallkniven Garm/WM,striped down Nimravus Cub, to an entire variety of folders.

It's not the knife that makes it a neck knife,,it's the sheath that it's carried in..

Pick your favorited knife, and a custom sheathmaker can turn it into a neck carry for you..

Well, yes, but a knife that's too big or too heavy will be too big or too heavy no matter what sheath it's in. I'm wondering what dimensions other forumites consider within neck carry tolerances.

I second the call on the Woo. The other neck knives by newt livesay are equally well built and cost-effective. The Camillus Arclite is another well-biult necker for a $20.00 bill.

Hey Razor..

You've missed the point completely..:)

The point I was trying to make is that "If" you have a knife that you like that "isn't" intended for neck carry,,such as the Nim Cub,,or Buck Mini Mentor,,or any Swiss Army knife, or Any folder for that matter.
A sheathmaker such as myself can make neck carry a reality...

I'm not concerned about the weight of the knife,,since weight of a neck knife is completely a personal thing... I've made neck rigs for Fallkniven FI's for people,,I wouldn't really wear it,,but some people do...

It's a matter of personal taste...

I think you're missing my point.

Yes, a neck sheath can be made for anything -- but I'm soliciting the opinions of our fellow forumites as to what dimensions or weights they consider beyond the scope of comfortable neck carry, regardless of the sheath system. I mean, you could have a custom kydex neck sheath made for the United Cutlery Gil Hibben Rambo III knife, but I think anyone would agree it's too big and too heavy to be comfortably carried in that fashion. It's those personal tastes you mentioned that interest me.

The neck knife in its kydex sheath is attached on belt in either horizontal or vertical position. Just like regular sized fixed blade in kydex sheath would be.

Good picture of similar setup (horizontal position) is here:
