Good pair of "traditional" hiking boots?

Really? We have a bunch here, I'm sorry to hear that.

It might be worth a quick search online to see if you can send them to someone. I sure wouldn't want to get rid of a pair of boots within at much history.

Speaking of, Can we get a pic of them?

Danner Mountain Lights for me. Great boot, but they sure have gone up in price since 1989 when I bought my first pair. Wearing them for a full-time outdoor job, they used to last me only a couple of years; I'd have them re-soled and they'd last for another year. I don't hike as much now, so I probably get 3-4 years (or more) out of a new pair.

I bought two pair of Alico boots from Sierra Trading and I love them. I've been wearing the "hiker" model almost every day this winter and I'm very pleased. I also got a pair of the heavier "Backpacker" model and they are much heavier. I really like them but haven't put many miles on them yet.

Get on their email list and wait for the right deal and you can get them for a pretty good price.

Good advice!!! The Alico Norwegian welt boots (take q while to break in, but they can be resolded) that are pretty much the same as the Merrell Wilderness and Danner Mountain Light sell all day every day at Sierra for $200 for the "fabric" lined Tahoe version and $220 for the leather lined Summit. I managed to get the lower priced version from them during their after Christmas sale fro $130. the problem with the comparable Merrill, Danner and off the rack Limmer boots is that nobody EVER appears to discount them. They are $300-400 take it or leave it.

Thanks for putting the models on there. I couldn't remember them and was in a hurry. We've had heavy snow and the Tahoe model that I've been wearing regularly have held up to the salt, wet and cold very well. I gave them a good treatment of Obenauf's LP at the beginning of the season and they are breaking in and holding up nicely. With all tyne salt in particular here in the winter I was looking for a smooth all leather boot to replace my old Vasque Sundowners (pre-outsourcing model). Good all leather boots are getting harder and harder to find.

Like I said I am very happy with these Alico's and would highly recommend them. The only thing I immediately changed out was the footbeds. I'm a firm believer in green superfeet insoles for boots.
