Good quality field/combat Knife?

Take a look at an esee-6 or esee-5 they both come with an amazing sheathing system and an amazing warranty you will likely never use

I'll give another big thumbs up towards ESEE and Swamp Rat. Not as pricey and they have a killer warranty, you break it you get a new one no questions asked. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these suggestions though

+1 on the Fallkniven A1. You're in a jungle. It's stainless. I'm guessing you have other things to worry about than oiling and polishing your knife. Also holds an edge forever.

Thanks for the input lads,
Its a gift and a curse as ive gone from wanting one knife to several, this forum is bad for me All i want to do is buy knives.

I really like the winkler feild knife followed closly by a custom M.U.K, then theres the bravo 1, essee, busse, A1, and many more!!

Becker BK7. Will outlast any owner.

But with the right money I would trust my life with anything INFI :D

I will throw my vote in with ESEE I have a 5 and that thing is absolutely indestructible as near as I can tell. drop on by the ESEE forum and look around.

I don't know the pricing in NZ, but US purchasers I recommend the Cold Steel SRK. It's about $50 so if you lose it you're not out a lot and it works as well as anything on the market. I've carried one for years, as have some of my friends in SF, and we say it is all the knive you will need. You can spend more and get a big-name with better steel and a better Oh-Ah factor but it will not cut any better.

If you want to spend more (say up to about $150), try the EESE RC-4, -5 or -6 series.

I say get an ESEE 5 or 6 and keep the extra money. Those knives are tough as nails, have the best warranty in the industry because the owners of the company stand by their product, and will not fail you. Also, the owners teach Jungle Survival training in South America, so they might know a thing or two about what a knife needs to be able to do to survive, and thrive, in these types of environments. On top of that, they are less expensive than just about all other options mentioned.

If you haven't checked them out already, here is a link to their forum.

Take a look at the Pathfinder from Blindhorse knives, it is a carbon steel, but has a great sheath system. Like someone else said, if you want a good knife that will do you good but not kill you if is lost, I recently read in Tactical Knives about Schrade Schf9 Extreme Survival. Also check out Becker and ESEE.

Just a thought, if wet humid damp is your theatre, perhaps a H1 rust free blade form Spyderco, would be an option.

H1 is made with out carbon they use nitrogen instead, it is supposed to be rust proof, (not just stainless) and as I have read it gains hardness from being worked, developing a sort of differential hardness like heat treated Japanese swords.

I don't own one, but sounds like just the thing for wet environs.

The LHR is 420HC stainless (Tactical Knives write up about the knife). The blade is just over 6" with a weight of just over 11 ounces. I'm going to guess that it's 3/16" thick. Anything thicker would weigh more for a knife that size. Who knows about the HT? Gerber never says what the blades test at any more.

I love the design, but I always hesitate a bit when a manufacturer doesn't state the steel that they use, or any HT info. What do they think to gain by keeping it a secret?

IMO, $112 is too much money for something in 420HC, I don't care who the designer is or who made the knife.

just an fyi rockynational has them for 99( not deal spotting and im not affiliated with them just saying)

Fallkniven A1 or second choice RC6...but it is a distant second choice. Have both and like both, but the A1 outshines the RC6 in every head to head I have pitted them against.

I have the A1, that is one tough son of a B**** of a knife. And it's stainless on the sides which is be handy for damp conditions. But for $300 you could get a Bussekin like a Ratweiler. But go with the A1 if weight is an issue.

Swamprat knives Ratmandeux LE. It'll be out in a couple weeks or so. Convex edged 52100 steel. tough as nails and holds a wicked edge.
