what I get they are calling bridal leather, at least it's what I am told.
I buy a full side at a time about 23-25 Sq feet.
it comes in Tan or Black I get 10-12 OZ and I think it was 5.75 PQF that last time I bought it.

just saddle stitching needls.............I am a 2 needle on 1 thread guy :) no stitching machine but me right now :)

you still at
104 Cider Dr

I'll send you some,
don't even offer paying for them..:)

I may bid on one of those at the end of the auction if it don't go up it should be a good buy if it's in good shape and not bone dry.. :)

Dan, I already ordered from this guy about a month ago. The leather was top notch. No cracking at all, kinda stiff at 10 oz, but plyable. The start prices are nice but don't last long, I lucked out on a side for $24.00 . That will probably last me till well into summer .

for around 11 SF about 1/2 of a side, it's not a bad price still..:) +
any maring on yours?

As a whole it was OK, There was one spot on one corner(only about 10" in) that you could tell the leather had been bent back on itself. I could live with it for the price. I probably do more damage to it, just touching it. I seem to scratch the stuff just looking at it. IN SHORT I'd trust him again.

I use either the 8/10 oz Tooling/holster in russet or the 8/10 skirting sides in chestnut - the chestnut is nice because you don't really have to dye - a light coat of oil or two and then the top coat of your choice............

a list here:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2319915&postcount=18

of which, unmentioned yet:
www.springfieldleather.com

is worth checking out
& worth re-checking occassionally
for their special purchases and clearances
& worth a call for items not yet listed online

.....today, I see
the heavier veg tan leather listed online is -8oz & 12-16oz
&they have exotics like
stingray, elephant, cobra, python, rattlesnake, frog, ostrich, caiman
Plus the more common of cowhide, deer, elk, goat, lamb

my little experience says all-round great vendor.

Yo B.Good...have you tried Zack White's?? They are down in Ramseur NC and there prices tend to beat Tandy...Downside is ya gotta pay Gov.Easy's sales tax on them...If ya know what ya want shoot me a pm and I will check the prices when I go and pick up my shoulders...Gotta make the gun holster's now dont I?? I am going broke learning how to make knife sheaths!! (borrowing knives and giving them the sheaths when done gets expensive!):D

Dan Gray...Bridal leather for knife sheaths?? Wow you want them to last a bit dont ya?? I use that stuff (12oz) to make gun belts out of...Tough stuff!!

I have been practicing my new endevor using 6-7oz leather for smaller knives and I am going to pic up some 8-9oz leather for a HI Khukuri I am getting here really soon:p

question...Can you use the normal leather sealants or do you have to use bee's wax??

I'll tell you that my sheaths do not flop around..

when your knives are sharp you need protection from that edge .

I havent tried them.........I just got a big piece from Wickett so I should be good for 6 months or so :) I'll have to check them out next go around.

Living in Rodeo country down here in Oklahoma I've found that all the leather a knife maker needs is at the local saddlery and harness makers shops. I usually get a years supply or more from them out of their scrap pile for very little money. $20 goes a long way for a knife maker from what they call scraps.
