Good Survival themed movies...your favorites requested!

Wasn,t it also called :Surviving the Game :? I thought it was Ice Cube . I can never keep all these cold things straight . Anyway if its the same one it has Rutgeur Hauer in it of :Blind Vengeance: maybe not survival . It sure had some neat sword fighting in it . There was even a cameo by Sho Kosugi at the end .But I digress .

Favourite ? Hunters Moon with Keith Carradine and Burt Reynolds . Reynolds plays one of his greatest roles in the movie . By this I mean that you don,t really see Reynolds in the character as you do in other of his movies .

Lotsa fun , dirty tricks and moonshine . Who could ask for more . O:K: so you want more ? There is a woman skinny dipping in the movie . L:O:L

I recommend PANIC IN YEAR ZERO, just released on DVD earlier this year.

It was made in the early 60's and had a low budget even for the time, but the acting is pretty solid and the story convincing:

An average suburban family in the LA area goes on a camping trip when they see LA disappear in a mushroom cloud. Stuck out in the country, they struggle to survive.

I won't give away the story but suffice it to say that the steps the father, Milland, takes to survive are, in my mind, entirely realistic IF you think about survival as much as the readers of this forum.

The only sour note, literally, is the sound track -- because jazz was 'bad boy' music at the time, the director (also Milland) seems to have settled on a jazz score in order to convey menace; unfortunately, to our modern ears, the soundtrack seems very upbeat and out of place. Still, the movie is fantastic.

Ha you guys . Death Hunt ..........Lee Marvin , Charles Bronson .

If Charlie wasn,t doin his best to survive no-one was .

Wasn,t snow walker with Chuck Norris ? If it was I always wanted to see it . It wasn,t released around me for some reason .

Was the one with Richard Harris Photographed starkly . Almost in Black and white ? He caught up with them eventually ?

Jeremiah Johnson (although Redford gags me these days)

Papillon ( great Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman flick)

Lonesome Dove

Bridge over the River Kwai

King Rat

The French Connection

Thanks, funny it is directed by Charles Martin Smith who starred in a survival movie . It was hilarious watching him eat all the mice cooked all the different ways . Seeing him slurp down the tails was neat .

I,ll have to check out snow walker one day .

Now I,m wondering what movie I,m talking about with Chuck Norris . Another one not released here .......... I,m moving L:O:L

The Last Trapper- but have not seen it yet!
Chapter's has this huge coffee table book called, "The Last Trapper" and it says it was based on a movie. I haven't had any luck finding anything about it. If you hear something, keep us posted.

Ming65....I have to agree... 'The Tracker' is an excellent movie. In fact I have the soundtrack from the movie playing as I type this.

In fact, I don't think I have ever seen an Australian movie that I have been disappointed with. I actively look for them in the video store.

I can't think of the name of it now... but there is another really good movie. Perhaps you can think of the name. It's the one where the father takes his two kids out into the desert to kill them and then commit suicide... but the kids get away... and meet up with a young Aboriginal guy who helps them out.
