Good way to test a knife

I am pretty new and do quite a bit of testing to learn more about my knives. I will typically make one of my drop points or bowies to destroy. I dont just beat it to death but I do several tests, first I test the edge with the brass rod.

I will really flex the edge and see just what it can take.

I cut some rope, rope tests need to be compared to other similar blades and cutting edges but over time you learn what is practical for your particular blade.

Then I will cut some wood, larger knives I want to hack through a 2x4 small hunters I just wack a while and see how the edge holds up. I then cut some more rope. I drill holes in the 2x4 with the tip and pry wood out of the hole to make sure the tip doesnt bend or break,

I then cut about every thing and anything I can find, just to see how it will do .

I always see how dull the blade gets and if there is any damage.

The last think is put in a vice and bend, I like to see how tough the blade tip is, how much force is required to break the tip off and how far did it bend before it broke. I then bend in the middle, I want to see how much force it takes and when will it break.

What I have learned is that if everything is done right the knives will cut alot of stuff and anyone will really have to work to break it.

And the final test, I will make a knife for myself, I make a point to take them out on walks and camping and use the as often as possible, sometimes carving sticks. This really helps me understand all aspects about the knife including the handle.

Good luck, I like you knives they are out of the box and that is something I have a hard time with.
