Got a 112 on the way

Burnishing it with the bottom of a drinking glass is what I started with first, and it was working well, but it would not get the last of the marks out.

I then used a Dremel with several different polishing bits, the main one being a hard rubber one with some kind of abrasive in it and one that was a kind of hard felt. After that, I hit it with 600 grit auto body sandpaper, that smoothed the Dremel marks well.

This burnishing with the bottom of a drinking glass sounds like a good idea.

Do you also use 334Dave's Shed Juice??? Works great.

It might not get all the marks out, but you don't care by that time.

:)

Actually, I'm going to have to try your method.....I'm sure I have a few scales that could be improved.

That is the perfect 112 to send back to Buck to sharpen and clean up! For $6.95 it will come back looking like new with a great edge on it...I just love to get the mail [UPS?] and find a Buck !!!! It's like Christmas! It's hard to get the bolsters scratch free at home I had 3 hours in one a few years ago and never did get it right.....The ONLY downside is that it will take a month at best and maybe 2 if you are unlucky..I love 112's.....

I would......but then I wouldn't be as likely to use it. I was very blessed to get the first 112 in this thread, it is a 3 dot that has not been used and has the original edge. Honestly, it looks like it has set in someone's dresser drawer since new. I oiled it up and hopefully in another 30 years it will still look as new as it goes now. No patina was removed from the first one.

The 2 dot is cleaned up well enough for me. It's fun to use the old ones.

You have fallen in with a bad crowd here......soon you will have so damned many knives you won't know which one to use, which one to send, which one to keep in the many drawers you'll have filled with them.

:D

I did not know that you could have too many, just not enough drawers. I got the fever about 7 years ago, haven't found a cure yet. Only relief is buy another knife.

I didn't fall anywhere, I am the "bad" crowd. ;) I just recently pulled my 112 Wal-Mart tin out and decided I liked it and wanted more.

Here's an 889 I messed with about 4 years ago.

Buck, Spyderco, Busse, Swamp Rat, Scrapyard, Bark River, Queen, Case, Kershaw, V-Nox, Wenger, Opinel, Schrade USA, new, old, forgotten, as long as it's quality, I'm not too partial.... :D
