Got a new Para2. Some thoughts, but overall happy.

is it true than any lubrication of the interface will slow breakin time? it is not super uncomfortable, but i do not like the clicking.

i have gotten an email back from spyderco. they say to send it in. i would like that to be a last option as i am not a fan of the 2-3 week turnaround.

Which is why they haven't been able to resolve the issue of sticky locks. Not enough people are willing to send them samples so they can determine exactly what the problem is and how to prevent it, so they just have to keep sending out sticky locks for people to complain about. If they get enough of them back with a given problem, they will make whatever change is needed, whether it is a smoother finish, tighter tolerance or a total redesign of the lock. Until they see them, there is no way for them to fix the underlying problem.

Do they open them as a part of QC before they ship them out? It is very obvious when one has a sticky lock. My question is, do they view it as being out of spec, or have they already fixed this problem, because all of my recent ones 3 gray, 2 Blue have had perfect locks. My s90 on the other hand is sticky.

I don't know, I don't work in Spyderco QC. When you are doing the same thing hundreds of times, your perceptions are likely going to be different from the end user who is doing the same thing once. What you or I perceive as a sticky lock may not even be noticible to someone who cycles an entire production run every day.

i was moved by what you said. the knife has been sent. i will update when i hear from them or the knife comes back.

I appreciate you giving up your knife for a time, and I know Sal does as well. It is the best feedback he can get.

My black Para 2 has somewhat of a sticky lock, but I kinda prefer it that way. It makes the compression lock feel more secure and I have no issue disengaging it. In fact I can easily disengage the lock with my index finger. It really shouldn't be a huge issue unless you're the type that flicks your knives open hard.

First, I decided to get a blue pm2.. waited with the preorder and finally received it. Noticed the knife didn't swing open easily AND noticed the lock gets stuck and was hard to disengage. Since Ive never had a pm2 thought it was fine and never thought about it again. UNTIL I decided to get another blue for the collection and noticed that one opened and disengaged and closed SUPER SMOOTH no swinging action required at all. which made me think about the 1st pm2 i got...

tried to lube the pivot with mineral oil and constant opening and closing and it seems it is a lot smoother.. however, the lock seems to be HARDER to disengage. the lock in the open position compared to my 2nd pm2 seems just a hair more to the right but i don't think its moved more from constant opening and closing.. but like i said it does sometimes get a lot stickier and harder to close...

what else should i try!!?!?!? opening and taking it apart is kinda out of the question cause i don't want to void the warranty.. would soaking it in warm water with dish soap help? or loosening the pivot or stop?

i shouldn't of got the 2nd pm2.. haha then i wouldn't of known what I'm missing out on with my 1st pm2.. =/

I don't have my PM2 yet (got an orange on preorder) but my thought is you should call customer service. Definately do not disassemble it http://www.spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54083 !!!!!!!!

Sent my PM2 S90V w/ sticky lock to Spyderco and I came back perfect. I would send it in under warranty repair.

I just dropped off my blue para2 at the post office today... =/ I was wondering how spyderco's warranty is.. It seems kind of weird they dont make you get an RMA number or anything for identifying who's and what knife they are receiving... Also, what if my "note" gets misplaced how do they know who's it is? Sorry, its my first time having to use Spyderco's warranty so I just have a few worries that are getting to me about my para2 and getting it safely home...

what does this mean? is this for the package to be sent to ATTN: Warranty and Repair? Cause, I emailed them and they said to send it in with just ATTN: REPAIR

and the waiting begins.....

so, the original email from spyderco said 2-3 week turnaround. it has been 3 weeks, should i have at least been contacted by now? for people who have dealt with sending a knife to spyderco, what is the usual wait time?

I would give them another week before calling. It's easy for a small company to a little get backed up from time to time.

Last time I used them it took about 3 1/2 to 4 weeks. I consider that good compared to many others out there. I've waited months before with a much more expensive company.

good to know. thanks.

i just checked my bank statement online and saw that spyderco had deposited my return shipping check. so hopefully i will be getting my knife soon.
