i like the sound of latin for some reason. here's a few sayings i've picked up along the way. excuse the misspellings....i'm sure there are some.

Do you know any good ones??

dulce et leche pro patria mori
it is sweet and fitting to die for one's country

sic transit gloria mundi
all fame is fleeting

carpe diem
sieze the day

illegitimus non carborundum
don't let the bastards wear you down

tempus fugit...memento mori
time flies...remember death

My high school's motto was:

"Pro Deo Et Patria"- For God and Country

others:

"Pax et Bonum"- Peace and Goodwill
"Meliora Eligo"- I seek the better things

spelling probably way off, been a long time

Cepieran igitur es meum
I stole it therefore it is mine

Also,

"Celeris- Silensis- Mortalis"

Swift-Silent-Deadly , the motto of the USMC Force Recon

I've always liked the coast guard's motto:

Semper Paratus
Always Ready/Prepared

Mark

In caecus terrae, luscus rex est. (In the land of the blind, the one-eye-man is king)

Credo quia absurdum. (I believe it because it is absurd)

BTW, I believe the "illegitimus non carborundum" quote is a modern invention.
One of my favorite albums!

"From Henry Beard's "Latin for All Occasions". Impress the hell out of your friends, with these little known Latin mottos and colloquialisms.

Eng: I think that Elvis is still alive.
Latin: Credo Elvem ipsum etian vivere.

Eng: Garbage in, garbage out.
Latin: Purgamentum init, exit purgamentum.

Eng: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Latin: Si fractum non sit, noli id reficere.

Eng: Baby, sweetheart, would I lie to you?
Latin: Amicule, deliciae, num is sum qui mentiar tibi?

Eng: I'd like to buy some condoms.
Latin: Volo comparare nonnulla tegumembra.

Eng: Your fly is open.
Latin: Braccae tuae aperiuntur.

Eng: Your place or mine?
Latin: Apudne te vel me?

Eng: I'll have a pizza with everything on it.
Latin: Da mihi sis crustum Etruscum cum omnibus in eo

Or, for real:

Oderint dum metuant (Let them hate, so long as they fear)

In vino veritas - In wine there's truth.

(So, lying to a drunk woman to get her into bed with you shouldn't work.)

Vendi vidi vici - I came, I saw, I conquered.

(Personally, I liked Bill Murray's version in Ghostbusters: We came, we saw, we kicked it's ass!)

How about the Latin verbal duel between Johnny Ringo and Doc Holliday in Tombstone?

Doc Holliday: In vino veritas.
(In wine there’s truth.)

Johnny Ringo: Age quod agis.
(Attend to the work you have at hand.)

Doc Holliday: Credat judaeus sotella non ego.
(Only the naive believe it, not I.)

Johnny Ringo: Eventis sultorum magister. (As he pats his gun)
(Experience is the teacher of fools.)

Doc Holliday: In pace requiescata. (With a Cheshire Cat smile)
(May he rest in peace.)

I'm not sure about you folks, but them's fightin' words where I come from!

:D

Six years at the Air Force Flight Test Center....and I've been selected to return. The flight test motto is:

"Ad Inexplorata" - Into the Unknown
