Got back from the guild show

The Guild Show this year was my first big one and it was more than I expected. I got nothing but great conversation from every maker and participant that I wanted to talk to. Granted some makers take a bit more warming up than others and some weren't there that I really wanted to meet (Mr. Carson and a few others), but I had an overall good time.

Jedi...I didn't get a chance to talk to Bob Dozier, but that's probably why he brings his wife Linda along. She was one of the nicest ladies I talked to all day and pulled out all the folders I wanted to look at. Probably would have stood there going down her list and pulling out knives all day if I had asked her to.

Fine show and even finer people.

Thanks...JT

This year was my second Guild Show and much better than the last, mostly becuae I had more time to spend. I got to meet alot of new people, and met some old friends again.

Most makers are friendly people, and are more than happy to share their time with you, but I think Al P. makes a good point. These aren't usually gregarious, outgoing people. They're artisans that would much rather be alone in their shop than in a room full of people. Don't let your feelings get hurt if you don't get enough attention.

I was joking with Valerie Elishewitz (a wonderful and intelligent woman) about how I don't think their really IS an Allen Elishewitz because he's never at his table. And she reminded me that this is one of the few times that most of these makers get to see and talk with the others. This show is just as much for them, and I think it's great that they let us attend.

Mr. Clark, it's normal for any big orginaization to have its politics, problems and infighting. Maybe you could consider becoming a member and try to help fix some of the difficulties? My daddy always said, "if your not part of the solution, then your part of the problem"... :)

BTW: Missed you Jerry.

Joe
