  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Got money? The Kabar Navy MKI is an excellent Tweener place-holder.

My Work Sharp Knife and Tool Sharpener seems to be hit or miss depending on the knife. It's really good on the BK2, and I just discovered it's really good on the MK-I also. SWEET!

You guys need to let the leather fascination go. Do you want to use it, or look at it? I can't express enough how awesome the grip is on this thing!

It's not a fascination, I just prefer it over rubber and Kabar has been using leather stacked handles for decades and I have one or ten of them. I also have the 1245 with the rubbery handle and I don't like it.

Thanks for posting the review C tanner. Love that guys reviews! And seeing the shorty usmc with the scandi grind, just wow. Skystorm, I emailed Tomars and he will not be carrying the leather handle MK1 since its an exclusive to a certain distributor. I found mine by searching on-line and found a few vendors that carry it.

Thanks bud, I will google around.

What's so terrible about a leather handle?

I do understand the drawbacks, but it's not exactly paper-mache. A lot of people like leather sheaths too, but there's nothing wrong with a little aesthetics, imo.

I prefer leather washer handles over kraton because in my experience the kraton develops this nasty sticky/slimy texture after a few years of use. It feels like slightly congealed blood or partially dried mucus. Ick. Yeah over time the leather can shrink and make the cross guard wiggle a little, but I can live with that. It's better than holding a knife which feels... contagious...

and you can always smack another washer in there, I bet...

And leather doesn't melt, can be replaced easy enough, reshaped for different mitts, dyed different colors if you want. Ah fudge, now I has to have one so I can make a matching moo-suit.
This place sure costs alot of money to hang around sometimes.

Wasnt this the video I sent you last night? You really gotta give the convex edge a go man, I did a pretty good one on a cheap folder today and its cuts 10 times better than the original V edge.

I got one with the stacked handles not too long ago off that auction site. Knife came new but with a used leather sheath. Hate the sheath to the point that I have not used the knife yet. Need to find me a good sheath for it. The knife is very well made. Nice thick handles, very sharp and excellent blade shape. I love everything about it but the sheath. Definitely a must have if you're on the fence.

Mooseman, will the Mk1 get the new coating and laser-etch treatment like the Becker line?

I suppose the leather one could always be dyed black...

-Daizee

As far as I been told, the BKT, JAB and Zombies are getting the new coating. All Kabar named blades, stay as is.
