Got My Benchmade Model 51 In The Mail Today....

I bought a BM51 from the forum and received it in the mail today. I have no reason to suspect that its not authentic however I am curious to know why there is the butterfly logo on one side but nothing printed on the otherside? I expected to see the blade material followed by some other text. Is this normal? Is this an early 51?

Yeah, looks legit to me. The flex in the unlatched handles are just how balisongs are. If you flip it open and latch it, I'm sure it's rock solid.

Just saying, there hasn't been any fake 51's yet. So all of your 51's are real. You're welcome.

Yes, there definately has been. There are fakes of every single higher end knife in production on this planet, without a doubt. What I don't understand is how you could have a legit 51 in your hand and not know that it's real. As soon as I pulled mine out of the box, I was blown away at how well it's made and it's just obviously a very high quality knife. Fakes aren't going to have the level of fit and finish that the genuine's have. That being said, the are surprisingly decent, however, if you can see at all out of your eyes and feel at all with your hand, you can tell. Also, the benchmade stamp will be reversed, or going the other direction on the fakes. Another pretty easy way to tell is by getting a magnet and placing it up to the liners, pocket clip, or the latch. If it's real, the magnet won't be drawn to them b/c the fakes are made using Stainless Steel obviously to keep the cost down and profit as much as possible. Another way to tell is if you have a scale, weigh it, if it weighs 3.3oz's, it's real, if it weighs more, it's fake. Stainless steel weighs more than Titanium and Stainless Steel is used on the fakes, so if the real ones that have titanium on them weigh 3.3oz's, the fakes with SS will weigh more. I love my 51 and it will never leave me.
