I just got back from a doctor's appointment to find that Mr. Postman made a visit while I was out. I put on my slippers and cardigan and opened the package to find that my new Fallkniven F1 has arrived.

No buyer's remorse here! I never had the chance to handle one and saw one come up on Ebay, so I made the plunge. It's a great design, nice balance, and just the size and weight I wanted. It came with the full leather sheath, which I like for the classic look and the low ride-- no pommel poking me in the love handles :) This is the model with the laminated VG-10 blade. Looks like more than enough meat to baton if I had to, but I wince at the thought of beating it up. Off to the basement to weave some paracord!

Ahh yes, yet another knife in my "To Buy" list. The convex edge turns me off a little though.

Have fun with the F1!

congrats... the f1 is an awesome knife... i didn't like the sheath that came with mine, so i had normark make me another... :)

Ohh there's nothing wrong with convex edges.

It's just that I'm a newbie when it comes to sharpening, and I only have a Sharpmaker to touch up my knives. From what I've heard and experienced, the convex edges don't work well with the SM. That's why.

Once you get sharpening convex you never go back. Love me some Fallkniven.

Sharpening a convex is even easier than using a sharpmaker if you can believe that.

I don't know if I can believe that ;)

I started looking into getting some stones for freehand sharpening, but for now, the Sharpmaker is still my best friend. :D

For my non convexed blades, ie most of them, I use a combination of sharpmaker and edge pro. Both are great for what they do. My convexed stuff is mainly Bark Rivers and some Busse's. Stropping and sandpaper is as easy as it sounds and very effective too.

You will not regret it. But there's no way back now, once you buy 1 Fallkniven, you soon feel the need to buy more... And More...

Oh yeah, the F1 is a great little beast, excellent fit, feel; when you hold it in your paws you just know, and when you use it your like YUP!
I also need to get me some Normark Pants!

My favorite backpacking/hunting/outdoors knife. You won't be disappointed.

I was showing it to the guys at work (most of the crew EDC Emersons!). My boss is a US Air Force vet and he was droolin' :)

It's one of those tools that you pick up and it says, YES. Not at all fancy, no frills or weirdness, just a peice of steel and rubber made to fit the hand and cut things with.

I'll be paring my wilderness cutters down to a "few" favorites:

Fallkniven F1
Benchmade Snody Instigator (necker)
Benchmade Griptilian*
Boker Trance*
Leatherman Micra
SAK Trekker
SAK Classic*
Kershaw/Bahco folding saw
Gerber Sportsman's Saw (telescoping)
Fiskars 14" axe
-- and a couple moras just for good measure :)

*=EDC

All the other toys are gonna go.

Ain't it the truth! :D

Now when you have one, you just need to get more.

To those who have problem sharpening a convex blade. 600 paper and a mousepad.

There are actually still flatgrind F1s out there but they are becoming collectors items. Look for the big logo on the blade marked VG10.

You can compare models here http://hem.passagen.se/nodh

If you really really must have a flatgrind F1 it can be done by a good knifesmith.
