Got my FBMLE today...

Awhile back I wrote in asking if I could get snake slabs put on my BATACLE, and Amy wrote back telling me they don't modify LE knives, so...

I may just hafta go with the sanding option. Anyonw care to give a walkthrough? Btw, David, your slabs look awesome (the snake, too) how much thinner are they now that you sanded them? Also, are they oiled in that pic?

perfect fit for me....

If you are going to sand yours to fit I suggest you go slow and maybe even take it chopping a couple times during the process to check the fit...

lets see if I can't find a pic showing the LE number

I'd say my hands are roughly medium, maybe...

Hard to say...

The mag handles on every Busse I own have always felt "right" while the standard scales always just feel "good". Plus I think mags look better, so thats what I aim to always buy!

New, what did you do to those scales? Oil, or renwax perhaps? I need to shine mine up a bit.

Fellas,

I can get my hand around the grips; that's not the problem. what I think WILL be a problem is that central palm swell. I have a feeling it'll be very uncomfortable for long-term chopping. Say I have a need to clear some trees/brush after a hurricane and am working long hours, that swell is gonna maim my palm. Anyone have that experience?

The knife is the best chopper out there, and the best looking as well.

Keep it and just sand, or have someone sand the palm swells down.
Best option you have that I see.

It was advised to me that modifying an LE might not be the best bet. Now I'm really confusticated about what I'm going to do...

If you look at the pic that I posted you will see the lanyard configuration that I use. It allows you grab the handle at the back end where it is not so thick.

In my experience this gives you a better chop with less hand fatigue. I can post some better pics to illustrate what I am talking about if you like. The lanyard acts like a...handle extension I guess is the best that I can describe it...giving you even more chopping power.

I've used this lanyard to give even a small blade like a Badger a lot of chopping power.

It may be that you just need to adjust where you grip if you are going to chop for a long time...Just something to consider.

This post shows how it's done in the most basic form. Grab the handle as shown and then move your grip to the end of the handle.

Thanks for the link, Shrek. If you can post some pics using your FBMLE, I would appreciate it.

If you are going to use it make it your own and shape that handle to fit you. Sanding is slow but it helps keep you from overdoing it. A Dremel or drill or belt sander are faster but remember, it's easier to sand a little more that to put Micarta back on your handle.

Thanks, Moffat. I'm looking for the knife to be a user, but I have some SLY HOG out there tryna get me to trade it away to him. :D We'll see what happens...

Hey bro,

Bill Siegle posted pics of his modded (sanded down) handles, and they looked great. In fact, someone bought it from Bill recently -- you could track it down by searching the exchange.

Otherwise, send it Ban to remove the scales, sand them down from the inside, then put 'em back on.

Or trade for a FFBM plus cash and use the cash for a Ban satin mod...

Good luck!

I like concept 1 or 2. No reason to lose that lovely FBM-LE just because of mag handles. That's an easy fix.

And you would mod an "LE", regardless of "limited quantity"? I'm kinda torn about it. I feel like such a nooooooob. :o:D

Let's make sure we're talking about the same thing: The FBM LE had the standard TIGER HIDE scales on it, not Snakeskin. The HH has Snakeskin scales that were not altered in any way. It would be my last Busse to go.........no, correction: it'll never leave until I'm dead!

The Tigerhide has been buffed on a wheel, accounting for most of the color and sheen. I may have oiled them with mineral oil, but I don't recall if that's when I took the pic.

The circumference right over the center fastener hole is 4 3/8th's"

Nothing to be torn about.

If you want to keep it for investment purposes, leave it alone!

If, on the other hand, you want to experience that which is INFI, make it so it suits YOU, so you'll be able to use better for your circumstances.

I was saying that both sets of slabs look great. I love Snake, and they'd probably work for me on something as thick as .312, but of course the LE's come with Tiger mags. What I'd like to know is how thick your tigers are compared to your snakes after getting the work done. Those look awesome, Dave.

If the mod is done well, it can only enhance the value.

Somewhere on BF, right now, SoupMonger is (sadly) offering his beautifully modded FFBM for sale. And it WILL sell ... and for a VERY GOOD price.

You need only fear shoddy work ... or work that just doesn't 'fit' aesthetically with Busse knives.

Of course, when I REALLY like a knife, I just get multiples. :D It's an artifact of my early training with real Hogs like ProGunner, Tony G, and Jaxx.
