Got my first Spyderco - I like it but its weird

Good first choice. I started with a Delica myself. I have about a dozen Spydie's now and 3 are Delica's. The ffg's are slicing fools.

I got my Delica in today, i love the finish of this thing. I feel like it would be a little easier to handle if it had a liner lock but all in all its an awesome knife.

Back to the thread discussion, this is the first knife that I carried every day and wasn't assisted opener and i love the old school feel.

I have been carrying the Delica a week now and I love it. It is a superlative EDC blade.

I find myself just opening and closing it while I watch TV.. Much to my wife's annoyance ;)

Definitely a spydie fan now :D

I know what you mean, and I'm probably in the minority here, but I generally dont like spyderco's blade shape and handle designs my only spyderco is a Gayle Bradly, awesome knife to be suregreat steel, smooth action and good one to try spyderco with, but I just don't carry it very often, my $23 Kershaw oso sweet gets so much more pocket time. maybe I need to mature as I collector a bit to fully appreciate Spyderco. :p

You're not alone. For me, whatever virtues they have cannot overcome their ugliness.

Thanks for your responses. Im glad to see my initial reaction is pretty common.

Ive been playing on and off with this Delica all day (in the car, at work, etc.) and I gotta admit the damn thing is intriguing. Kind of like a revelation ;)

I decided I "need" to order a Endura and Stretch tonight to explore this further :o

Of all the lock types, the back lock is the most difficult to flick because of the constant resistance of the spring and the bias toward closing. If you want a knife that flicks easily then you need to substitute a different knife for either the Endura or Stretch. Let me suggest you substitute a Manix 2 (caged ball lock) or Paramilitary 2 (compression lock) for one of your choices.

yeah they're weird in hand, and the blade shape is weird too, but you'll get use to it.
BTW can anyone point out the advantage of the leaf blade shape for me?
I know a lot of guys are fan of that blade shape, but I don't know why. Don't get me wrong I don't hate it, just curious, and it seems o be lack of belly right?

Start thinking about triangles and trigonometry, and how interior angles and hypotenuses work. Then reconsider what the "height" does for the knife other than add bulk. :)

Don't really get 100% of what ur saying but I'm seeing my Spydie's in under new light, for me I'm now aware of the strength of my Spydie blades resisting cutting direction forces :)

I always felt the Spydie folders are kinda like myself, not pretty to look at but datum I get the job done :)
