Well took the class for 10 hours passed the test. They also gave me a tag for pheasant hunt. But i realy never done that and dont have the shotgun. My next plan is to buy a .22 and start with Thumper and Rocky. Then work myself up from there. Im going to check out the regs for Pheasant hunting but if im not going for it.. Does any one in SO CALI want them???

Congratulations. Now you can provide low-fat, hormone/chemical/antibiotic-free meat for the table....

Stay sharp,

They charged you to take a hunter safety course? Or was it a different type of course? Unless it is only some states that they are free?

Oh well, congrats on the license. Make sure you practice before you try adn shoot anything. Never want to wound the animal

Yes they do charge for the class. Some charge as much as a $200. For the $20 this guy gets he brings sodas pizza and the good donuts. Im sure it cost him close to $15 for each person just for the food. So i realy dont have any problems with it.
I been looking on the net for places to hunt and the rules. But its not easy to figure it out and most places they want only shotguns. Chewbacca you are not kidding about no places to hunt in CA. I realy rather use the .22. Anyway im doing alot of reading now and looking at rifles as well..

Ah, that is different. My nephew recently took it and they provided the books and a tag holder. No food though. I wish they would have had food, I would have took it again :D

What do you plan on hunting with it? I'm sorry if you mentioned it, I must've missed it.

I want to start with rabbits and squirls but later i would love to try my hand at a wild pig or deer.

If they mostly allow shotguns, why not get a gun with interchangeable barrels? I don't know the quality on any of them, as I really don't own one, however I am sure some of them are decent. They shouldn't set you back much either. And this way you need not get a second gun for deer or pigs.

Congrats Sasha,
Check out Tejon Ranch I-5 en route to Bakersfield for pigoramas, they are great. Got to keep the hog population manageable. If you go in the summer, find some water on that range up there be in position on a ridge prior to 7 am, and have a great trip. Pheasant clubs in Riverside, 4 winds it is called, been a long time. I love to Dove hunt in the Wister Unit down in Salton Sea.

Good job Sasha!

I am surprised they still allow hunting in California at all...

Come on Chewy, careful with the broad brushing.:D All Cali's are not liberal PETA humanity loathers. Lots of red blooded Americans here. I avoid Hollywood even though I live close.

Cj65 how much does it cost to go hunting there??? it seem from what little i did check that almost everything you need to pay to go hunting.. Its pay someone a few hundred dollors to hunt. Could you give me some more info about places and areas??? What do you prefer to use for rabbits, .22 or shotguns???
Sasha

Personally I use a air rifle with a head shot.. However, I occasionally take out the ol' .22 with a head shot and have fun like that as well.

right on Sasha.. congrats... i grew up doing a lot of bird and small game hunting.... it is a lot of fun.. i think, i got my hunting license when i was in 7th grade...:D i'll bring my new 12 gauge to the bash and when can play around with it...

sasha,

You can hunt in the National Forests (Los Padres, Angeles) which are right above LA.
There are seasons of course, but certain rabbits are always in season.

As for a .22. I have a CZ 452. It is a laser!

I shoot about 300-500 rounds every other week. I shoot it off
hand with iron sites and it is a pleasure to shoot and handles very well.
Bunnies beware!

Sasha,
You can also hunt in the Sespe wilderness Ventura County on BLM land. Know your laws, regs and boundaries. Check with your local fish and game and they will give you regs. Yes, Tejon Ranch was not cheap, but it was fun. Wister Unit is cheap for the dove hunt, but you can find free hunting in the low desert as well. The dove hunt supports business in the salton sea area, so there are no issues there at all. Start with your rangers, and start poking around hunting forums. You can get a wealth of info. Remember to hunt responsibly, follow rules, so you do not give the libs reasons to want to shut down our barbarisms.:p Pig hunting was a 30 0 6 and bird hunting is 12 ga. and 22 or shotgun for rabbit, but pellet guns are fun too!
