Got my hunting license today

I hunt quail and chukar in the Owens Valley, north of Mojave. I'd be glad to discuss it with you at BushBash I and go over some maps. There are some areas up there with bunnies too.

Both Marlin and Ruger semi-auto 22s are decent, low-cost rifles. I can bring one of each to our 5/2 gathering for you to try.

I'm not a big fan of the Tejon Ranch offerings, based mainly on price. I know some guides who will take you on a guided hog hunt (extremely high success rate) for about the same money. Public land hog hunting in CA can be tougher sledding. Not a lot of great areas, although the region near Fort Hunter Liggett isn't bad. I'll refer you to some hunting forums where you can collect more info.

You can hardly go wrong with a .22 by any of the major gun makers. I really enjoy my Ruger 10/22, which I've spent some money customizing. But I equally enjoy an old Romanian military surplus .22 training rifle I bought for $69.

Even if someone manages to convince you to hunt small game with a shotgun instead, be sure to buy a .22, at least for inexpensive practice and casual shooting fun. Everyone should have one. :thumbup:

I'm sorry to hear that it's a challenge to find places to hunt where you live! I'm lucky in that regard and have plenty of state land and private land that can be hunted (with permission).

+1 on the cz452... mine in a fuzz tail killer.... scope on 1.2" groups at 100yrds... but i love hunting w the irons...
 
Thanks guys, DWK i would love to try out some of your .22 . Any help in pointing me in the right direction for hunting information would be highly appricated. Does anyone wants the tags for pheasant hunt. The guy said they are good for all areas. Just in case someone is not sure, i dont want money. I would rather give them to some one who would have use for them. But if in exchange someone would give me info on a secret rabbit spot then i would be very excited..
