After the nightmare of a missing package, the new sarsquatch that JT ordered for me arrived.

Out of the box -

GREAT edge geometry, not the sharpest knife i've ever seen, but it certainly had the best grind of any Busse I've seen. A few minutes on a strop easily made it hair splitting. I would LOVE to see more Busses come this way, seriously.. This knife is a born user.

Decarb... There was a good amount of it. I didn't know if it would be a problem or not, but I sliced up some veggies, including tomatoes, it rusted pretty bad. Worse than 1095. That was the deciding factor for me, it's meeting the trusty ol 50 dollar sander.

Dimples - Holy freakin' crap, there were a lot of them, which was expected.

Blade heavy, the point is, well.. unique. It's got a sharp point, but not overly fragile, in fact it's pretty beefy. I LOVE the handle on this knife, I have no complaints about it whatsoever.

Now to grind...

I didn't have much time before work, but I spent some time working it with an 80 grit belt. I'm just working on getting rid of the decarb and the dimples. I figure this would be a fun little project, and it's coming out pretty decent thus far. It's just time consuming with the 80 grit generic belts. They wear quite fast. I ordered some new belts that should be here tomorrow, including some 40 grit, hopefully I'll be able to kill the dimples.

I'm also going to try some cork belts in various grits, up to a polishing belt. Supposedly they have a tighter scratch pattern, but we shall see. I don't know how high a grit i'll end up bringing it, but i've seen some SICK looking SarQs out there, so we'll see where I end up. Sadly I won't have much time until the weekend to grind on it some more. I'm just happy to see the dimples disappearing and the decarb gone.

Honestly, this knife might be a new Busse favorite of mine. It seems like a great utility/camp/survival knife. It's certainly going to be going with me where the NMFBM is a little too big.

Now I just need to make myself NOT sharpen the swedge, which would render the knife useless for batoning etc.. But oh it's so tempting. I may buy another to sharpen the clip and make it a pure fighter. The blade is fast in the hand, especially since all my Busses are fat!

I love this knife.

Here it is with a 1/4 done 80 grit finish.

On to the sheath, it's really awesome. That's all I need to say. Very, very secure, ambidextrous by just moving the teklock. I know my next sheath will be a Mashed Cat, great work man!

Edit - All done!

That might be my first Busse choppa!

I haven't gotten a chance to chop with it yet, but i'm thinking it will not be the greatest as the blade is pretty light and not that long. It should hold it's own, but for a first chopper, you need a BM. I'd imagine this will chop about the same as my CG ASH, maybe a little better as the edge should make it bite quite deep for a knife this length.

I think a 10 inch model with the same blade profile would be sick though!

nice work 230, I am glad things have worked out on your end. I hope they will work out well for JT as well

That Sarsquatch is a neat looking blade style Imho 230. Hopefully one day I'll pick one up too.

Every grit that they had for a 1x42. Probably 180-800 then plain. I used green compound with them.

Play with them on a junk knife first. I went through all the grits up to plain. I went from each grit directly to plain. I threw the buffer in there a couple times.

You can pretty much come up with any finish you want from my experience.

Have fun.

You used compound on all the belts or jut the high grit ones? I was thinking i'd start out with the low grit belts, up to like 600 with just the belt alone, then break in the polishing belt on some scrap and add some green compound.

I bought two sets of 180-800-plain. 1 set has green compound on all. It is something that I did not want to listen to someone else on. I just wanted to try every option I could think of and see what I got.

I read a lot about break in. Not sure how I feel about it. I went 40-80-120 with Blue Zirc 3m belts to the cork belts. I was able to get a mirror finish that way. I didn't like the mirror though so that is when I started trying everything.

Just try it out is my advice. Just not on your Busse.

Yeah, i'm not after a pure mirror finish, just a really good satin, just slightly shinier. I think i'll avoid using compound and try it out on another knife.

when you guys speak of green compound, is that what you use on the strop?

if so what is the name, number, brand, etc and where do you get the compound?

thanks for you time and help!!!

I use the bark river compounds. They work for me. If anyone has a suggestion for better compounds on belts I would also be interested.

I agree 230! A 10" sarsquatch would be sweet!

The handle on these things are very nice. I do believe that the BWM is the same thickness or very close.

Glad to see you got your knife.
