was wondering if anyone would be able to help me grind them down and possibly put on a handle on it for a fee.

does anyone do that?

we'll work out the details. but i'm definitely not here to rip anyone off.

You might want to clarify what you are looking for, if you want someone to help you or if you want to pay someone to do it for you. With no clearer info about what you are looking for and no location or anything in your profile, most makers will probably not bother to answer.

i would do all of this myself if i had the tools. i dont. that's why i came here.

and yes, i'm asking if someone will file them for me and work out some sort of handle for a fee.

location is not really needed, unless you're in the san diego area.

Wow guys, have we really got to be THIS nasty with new guys? WTF happened to the helpful, friendly people that made this forum great once upon a time?

free1, I'm sure that somebody here can help you. It would help if you can be a bit more clear about what you're looking for. For example "I'm looking for a maker to grind, HT, and finish some Camillus blanks for me. Handle materials that would work would be..."

Now guys, play nice.

There are alot of these blanks floating around right now for some reason, I think someone on ebay got ahold of a bunch. I have a guy sending me one for a handle and grind. Please post a pic or the model so we can see what you have, or email or pm me and we can discuss a cost. There are some guys doing rehandles and repairs that may be less costly.

I can do a handle for you if you don't mind waiting until January. At this time I don't have the tools to grind and heat treat blades but I do a good job on handles. Post some pics and a little more info so we know better what you are looking for.

thank you bro.

basically i need these to be ground to a bevel down to a knife's edge.

i'd like the tang to be hidden so i'd like for it to look original somewhat, the handle material doesn't matter though i've read some are better than others.

and yes, thse are the one's that have been floating around ebay.

basically, they look like this... just a piece of metal right now:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Cold-Steel-Reco...tem&pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item5ad9d6d8fd

that's a really nice price too, i've seen the tantos go for twice that just for the blank.

I wasn't trying to sound rude or dismissing with my reply, just thought that perhaps the reason he wasn't getting any positive responses was because his first post was pretty vague. If what he is looking for is clearly spelled out, then the appropriate people can and hopefully will reply.

you seriously gonna grind away like a half inch of steel ... with what? sandpaper, you could probably do it on the sidewalk.

christ...

With a file. Beginners take a square bar of steel and file out a knife in a few hours for a first blade all the time. A good file or two, some good sandpaper, some good steel, and the desire is all you need. It really isn't that hard.

You will appreciate it a lot more too. You are unlikely to find anyone here to touch your order for less than what a current new finished Cold Steel knife like that costs...

Just keep in mind that using a Blank only saves the Maker around one hour of shop time and $10 worth of steel.
Do you want a Custom Hand finish, Stag handle, Ivory, Damascus guards ETC...

Your best bet would be to buy the materials you want used.
Send all of it along with a pic or accurate drawing of exactly what you want the end product to look like.
Expect to pay about what they will charge for a regular knife minus the material costs. 60-80% of the time spent on a knife is fit and finish.

Start with the end in mind and be very specific in what you want.
That will help get the results you are expecting

nah, i didn't want anything fancy.

i'm wondering how i can get a tight enough handle with the hidden tang though. i'd need some special tools to make it fit the handle, then cut a hole for the rivet. i was thinking about all the handle possibilities - micarta, g10, etc. do they even sell little blocks of them?

i'll probably just end up doing it myself cause the shipping would probably be enough just to buy one.

I would be willing to grind, heat treat, and handle them for you. Just need to know what type of steel the blanks are and what handle materials you want. If you don't have access to PM then post your tel. # here and I will call you.

like i said above these are already heat-treated.

the steel is "carbon v" and ideally i'd like a hidden tang like the originals.

i don't know about handle material, but from what i hear micarta or g10 seem to be the best.

give me a quote, though i'll probably decline for over $20.

$20!--any takers?

Sorry if I offend, but it's going to cost MUCH more than $20. JUST the piece of micarta from the cheapest place I know will cost $5-8, and probably take a couple hours to grind and handle. You're offering artists minimum wage AT BEST to make you a custom knife

If it does not have the bevels ground in, it is not likely to be heat treated. Pretty much the only heat treated blades I've ever seen on the market are already completely ground and ready to handle. If you have a slab sided blank it probably isn't heat treated.

Free1, you need to spend a bit of time researching what you want and what the custom market is about. Some guys here are going to take your offer of $20 as an insult...but they make blades that start at $200 and go up fast. Offering $20 for several hours of their work is like offering $5 an hour to a master craftsman...

Not gonna happen.

Once again I encourage you to give it a try yourself. If the blade is beveled and hardened, you just need a block of wood, a long drill bit and drill, and some epoxy. The epoxy is used to make the tang tight in the handle...read the sticky's above for lots more tips and hints on this kind of project.

as said above, your price point is insulting. i'm not a maker, but even i'm insulted! you're offering below minimum wages dude!:thumbdn:
