Got some Camillus blanks... was wondering

I don't want to insult or offend, but you must know very little about knives. I don't know what kind of quality you think you're gonna get in a $20 knife but that will only buy you a piece of junk. Go to the for sale section here and browse a little and then reconsider your price. I think you saw a knife blank and saw a cheap way to get a good knife. Most people don't understand that the steel in a knife is one of the cheapest parts of the knife. The steel in most carbon steel knives usually runs from $2-$5 the remainder of the cost lies mostly in the makers time and skill in turning that chunk of steel into a usable tool. High end handle material, such as ivory, pearl, etc. can add significant cost as well. As stated above a block of G-10 or micarta would cost a maker close to if not your top offer of $20 bucks. Again I'm not trying to insult or offend, just give you something to think about. You asked for a quote. Here goes, I will grind, heat treat, and handle your knife blank with micarta or G-10 in your choice of color for $150. I can also make a leather sheath for it for another $40. I realize you're probably gonna decline my offer but I think any maker here would consider this a fair price (anybody want to chime in). So to conclude I wish you well in your search for a $20 custom knife. If you find one please post it here, I would like to see it. Thanks.

Wow! 150.00 ? That is a great price! Darrin, maybe I should sub-contract some of my work out to you! :D
Just kidding, of course. (about the sub-contracting part.)

Hey Troop, got a kick out of that sub-contract idea. I'm pretty much an unknown maker so I have to keep prices low in order to get a few sales. I always strive to make the best knife I can no matter how much money I get in return. I would also genuinely like to see free1 get his blanks turned into something he could use and enjoy. And actually gave him a low-end quote hoping to get him to consider it.

Darrin, You are a good man for trying to help out the original poster, as the price quote reflects.
... I don't go that low, not even for friends! :D
