I have 4 hours tell I get to eat my New York strip baked potato meal; those picks are making me feel very impatient. Well done boss!

I haven't had a new york steak in almost six months now... but the last one I had costed about 50 bucks and my boss covered it (The Mill in McCall, Idaho-open range grass fed cows come in right off the range for slaughter and wind up on your plate-no freezing or chilling of the meat. Served on a 500 degree ceramic plate to keep the steak warm). I do love flat iron grilling steaks, top/petite sirloins, well marbled top shoulder cuts, etc. It's amazing the steak you can grill at 1.99 a pound. At that price it makes freezing a cut in aluminum foil a very reasonable meal for the first night on the trail.

Making me hungry.....:)

I really like the cocobolo. Was it hard to do?

It's easy to do, but hard to do right.

Let's just say, I could have had a few cocobolo-smoke flavored NY Steaks with the rejects :)

We cook chicken breasts this way on rafting trips as well, with some sort of horseradish sauce. It's been dubbed "Chernobyl Chicken".

that looks awesome. I love packing in a steak for the first night of a hike. Going out for a few days next week, still trying to plan my menu...I think you may have slanted the scales a bit here :)

Awesome pics! Makes me hungry! That's one thing I really like about winter hiking and camping...much better food options. With the 111F heat indexes here I don't take any fresh meats in the middle of the summer....it's all tinned and freeze dried meats.

I'm not gonna lie, I really should wear a bib when viewing food related threads when I'm hungry. Those steaks look fantastic!

Oh sure, I just got done eating and you have to put up pics of a great meal.

Now I gotta find something to snack on.

Great pics - I take it you took the stakes and broccoli with with you? How about the mushrooms? Did find them wild? Just after dawn is the best time to pluck them in the wild, of course you got to know which ones, but some can be the size of saucers in the right location, they really taste good.
