Gotta love not getting feedback...

If you buy, sell and trade enough, you'll build up plenty of feedback even if you only receive it half of the time. No worries.

If I take the time to establish a trade ad, add pictures etc, I would expect the responding party to ship first. Is that not standard protocol?

Why? Because you spent 5 minutes making an ad? Typically I'd say it's normal to ship at the same time. I'm on half a dozen gun forums selling much more than just knives, and this is the only forum I've noticed a repetitive 'you have 3 less feedback points than me so you have to ship first' which is just silly when people on here don't tend to leave feedback consistently even after bringing it up in the initial trade arrangements. Seems funny to me, and it seems like an easy way to get consistently burned or scammed.

It depends on many things. Let's say you and I are going to enter into a trade (forget I'm a mod for 2 seconds). I will look at the following:
1. Your post history. What kind of person are you based on your posts? Are you helpful or a troll type?
2. Your post count. Tis matters to some extent, but not as much as others think. W have members here that have 10K posts and half of them are LOL replies and such.
3. Your presentation. Do you present your items in such a way that convinces me that a transaction would work? Are your items represented accurately? Are you hiding anything? Are you concerned in answering my questions (with reason)?
4. Your previous transactions on here and other forums. Oh, I'm going to do my homework. I will see how you act on other forums and if you are a good guy or a not so good guy. Communication is everything.
5. Overall, what have you done for the community if anything? Paid member? Giveaways? Anything along those lines would indicate you are community oriented.

There is a way to be more sure of what a person is like based on feedback here. I've sold stuff to people and have not received feedback at least 10 times if not more. It's all about the community, communication, and placing importance on accuracy and successfully completing the deal. Some people come back with, "I have a job and family and Zi have things that are more important than a trade" or whatever. The thing to remember is that this place operates on integrity, if you don't have it you won't last. Anything you do is worth doing right, and doing it 100%. Some people need to learn by example, so it's always good form to let the person know you received the item, tell them you are happy or not, and ask the same questions, and of course leave feedback.

I always try and leave feedback.

I feel part of the reason why alot of folks may not (and why I sometimes delay to do so) is that the FB system here is not very user friendly. It is certainly not one of the better designed systems I have seen. If it was more visible and easier to use; I do not think there would be these type issues/concerns.

I tried to leave feedback about a year ago and couldn't figure it out. I tried again today and couldn't figure out how to get URL. Sorry RedDevil, your instructions did not help. Nothing personal, I have always disliked and had trouble with computers. :( I am still traumatized from having to give up my typewriter in 1989.

mwhich50,

A page's URL is just the address for that particular page. So the URL for a thread is the address for the first page in the thread. It always starts with "http://www" or "https://www" or at least "www" For example, this page's URL is "www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1112096-Gotta-love-not-getting-feedback?p=12688295"

You find that URL at the top of this and every web page, usually in the upper left corner. Scroll up and take a look for the address. Once you find this one, any other URL should be just as easy to find.

So to get the URL for the sale thread, go to the thread, look for the address as explained above, then copy and paste it in box for the sale thread in the feedback section.

Hope that helps. :)

Well, there are some folks that just don't click with computers. Not much we can do in those cases. The instructions are simple enough. Te URL is obtained from the thread where the sale took place. It only works with threads that originate in the Exchange. Copying and pasting the link is better than trying to type it out.

I couldn't figure out how to cut and paste, but I finally saw the URL, lol. I was looking all over the BF page, not way up top. I told you I don't do well with computers. Thanks, I got my feedback in finally.

Nope, not at all. In fact, if you put that requirement in your ad I wouldn't even bother to answer. I pay a lot more attention to the fersons feedback and overall posts than the fact that they wrote a nice looking ad.

Just out of habit, if I am the seller, I wait for the buyer to leave feedback first. To me a transaction is not complete until the buyer has received the product and is happy with it. Then of course I will reciprocate with positive feedback in return.

I had this conversation with a seller - he was under the impression that feedback was only for the buyer to leave for the seller - not for the seller to leave for the buyer. This is just as important showing a quick payment etc.

I'm glad the feedback system is in place here. But I also do my due diligence like RevDevil states above by taking a look at the other parties forum activity etc. All in all it makes for a pleasant comfortable transaction for both parties.

I see it just the opposite. The seller got their end, my money, first. So they can leave feedback first. I don't hold firmly to that here, since I mostly deal with people I consider friends on here, but I do on ebay. If I paid promptly I should get good feedback, even if the seller doesn't warrant the same.

Right answer, though I am guilty of the opposite.

Feedback is only as good as the person leaving it. I have come to put less and less stock in it. Example: I am looking at a couple of pretty high end knives and the seller has a negative feedback. When you look at the negative left by the buyer all it does is point to the original sale thread. What am I supposed to do with that if nothing has been brought to GBU?

I am of the opinion that the number of characters we can all see in feedback be expanded and a give and take between the parties should be able to be displayed right in the feedback. I am sure this would be a moderation nightmare but why even moderate it. Let the two parties have at it and the next buyer beware. I am sure the more serious cases would still end up in GBU.

I am sure this has plenty of room to shoot holes in. Just food for thought.

Over half of my deals have never left any feed back. Several even after asking.

I have been around long enough that I don't worry about it as much any more.

But it still annoys me.

I owe about 3 people some positive feedback but life happens if you guys read this hit me up and I'll get right on that. Also gonna add I don't go solely on feedback during a transaction I'll look at you forum posts and check your attitude, and if act like a douche then I don't want to do business with you. For instance a member has a feedback score of 50 probably very trustworthy but because of his ass hattery to myself and other members I would never sell him anything or give him a dime. I know quite a few more folks who will do the same thing so your score isn't all that matters...

I have only been a buyer so far. When I receive the item, I let the seller know that I received the item and that I will be posting positive feedback. I ask if they can do the same. I have only had one person that didn't leave feedback for me. I sent them another PM asking them to leave me positive feed back, I promptly paid for the item he was selling. His response was could I send him the link to his own sale thread! This guy has had several items for sale, so I'm sure that he knows how to look up his own sale thread. When I looked at his recent posts, I saw he was kind of a Troll in some of the threads. He seemed very immature in a lot of his thread comments. I wish that I could take back my positive rating for him and leave it at no feedback. I don't think I would buy anything from this guy again.

I don't do feedback first anymore.

This approach will not do anything to help the feedback system/process and, frankly, I find it rather petty. Be the bigger man and put in the good word for those who deserve it. Some people still might not reciprocate but that's life.

I leave feedback as soon as knife arrives as seller promised.

one time the knife was abused so I left no feedback instead of a negative one.

For a short post, it's friggin loaded with common sense.

Frankly I find you quoting me and calling me petty offensive. Too each is own. I'll do things my way and you an do things your way How's that? Now that's life.
