This is my personal experience with GPknives.com, and it may not represent the typical experience, but I wanted to make it known:

I bought a 635BK from them, and when I got it, the blade was so off center that it was rubbing against the inside of the left handle and rubbing the black coating off the blade. I spoke to the purveyor (can't remember his name now), and he insisted that "they are all like that" and insinuated that I didn't know of what I spoke. I tried to explain to him that I have been collecting personal cutlery for over 20 years, and I know exactly of what I speak -- and on point: I already had another 635 (non-BK), and it was perfectly centered. He dismissed me, I returned the knife, and I will never deal with them again.

Buyer beware, IMHO. . . .

I've had nothing but good transactions with them (over the net and in person) but YMMV...

That's all good to hear, fellas, but there was no excuse for the way I was dismissed. I suppose I just caught him on a bad day? The problem for me was that it was my first experience with them. And there are just too many other places out there for me to spend my money, so it will also be my last experience with them.

Cheers.

Sorry to hear about your experience. I too have been please with GPKnives. Give them another chance?

- Mark

I hate to hear you had a bad experience. Been in their store several times and other than not being able to agree on the final price sometimes they were always good to me.

We haven't sold a 635BK in well over a year, i'm not sure who you talked to on the phone but we're generally happy to send replacements (or refunds) in these situations. In fact we even allow customers to ask us to check these sort of things up front for those concerned.

Send me a pm with your email or order number, I'll gladly look into it.

Nothing but love for Grand Prairie Knives. I have known Mike and his Son for many years, and cannot begin to count the knives I've bought from them. Never anything but positives.

Yes, it was over a year ago - probably 18 months - so I don't have my receipt or order number. But when I have an experience like that (having my intelligence insulted, that is), I don't forget it.

I would have posted earlier, but I didn't join this forum until recently. And I didn't discover this sub-forum until very recently. When I did, I couldn't help but recall my single worst knife buying experience. I don't recall the name of the man I spoke to on the phone, but he was unfriendly, and he indicated to me that he was the owner of the establishment. With no one higher-up to turn to, I returned the knife, checked my account for a credit, and deleted the site from "My Favorites."

And, for clarification, the man I spoke to did say that he could send me another 635, but in the same breath he also assured me that it would be the same because "they are all like that." If that was the case, I didn't want another one with the same problem. And I started thinking that I was being sold factory 2nd's, and that was why the price was so low. In any case, I haven't looked back.

Well,

It seems like the owner is on the up and up responding to your thread. I think that deserves some respect. Might have been a one off bad situation.

Might be something to have whined about a YEAR AND A HALF AGO!

Seriously, this never should've been brought up here. If you couldn't(or, in this case, chose not to) work out something with Mike and the gang a year and a half ago, spare us the whining and faggidaboudit.

I dont get that at all. If you werent happy with the knife, simply send it back and ask for a store credit or your money back. Simple. Why bring this up 18 months down the road? You been harbouring a grudge ever since?

I agree with the other posters. I have been looking at GPknives for a few knives and was surprised when I saw this. I was about to write them off and I then found out this happened over 18 months ago. It says alot for the owner to come in here and post too (Kudo's to GP knives for that!).

I just ordered one of their exclusive Mini Griptilians and it went great. Ordered Wednesday afternoon and had the knife on Saturday morning.

It bothered you so much it took 18 months to post a complaint? But you post here 25 times a day?

No sympathy here- but thanks for posting because I'd hate to deal with you.

Let me see if I can explain it for you.

My first choice was to get a replacement 635 with a centered blade. But, according to the man at GPK, all of the 635 were off-center. So, I then went with my second choice, which was to return the knife for a refund. And they did promptly refund my money.

My issue with them was not that they didn't offer to send a replacement or issue a refund, it was simply the fact that the man insisted that I did not know what I was talking about when I explained to him that the blade should be centered when closed and not touching the inside of the handles. I even explained to the man at GPK that I already had another 635 (yes, I buy at least two of every knife I have), and it centered up nicely. He dismissed that point also and acted as if I was making that up as well! Having my intelligence insulted and my honesty derided is completely unacceptable. It was such a troubling experience that I won't likely forget it for a long time to come - even a whole 18 months later. You can call it a grudge or whatever, but you wouldn't forget an experience like that either.

And, again, I only joined this forum recently. If I had joined earlier, then I would have posted my story earlier. I discovered this sub-forum on the day I posted this thread. But I first read many of the other forum members' comments about good and bad experiences. Clearly, the purpose of this sub-forum is to provide feedback and information about sellers and buyers' experiences to other forum members. That's all I did. If there is a limitations period on posting comments about purchasing experiences, I am not aware of it. And, for the record, I did also post (on the same day that this thread was started) positive comments where appropriate, e.g.:

I hope that clears it up for you. It sounds like I may have simply caught the wrong guy on the wrong day, since many of you have had positive experiences. I hope that is the case - but I didn't know that fact when I posted this thread. For all I knew, my experience was not unusual, and I was curious to hear all of your comments. So, thank you all for sharing your positive experinces with GPK. I may give them another chance, after all. If I do, I hope to be back here posting positive feedback.

I'll certainly keep you all updated on that. . . .

Sincerely,

Derek

I posted these comments above; it's reposted here for your convenience:

Derek, did you try seeing a shrink? I mean, 18 months later and a bad knife that you returned still haunts you... Maybe you should change hobbies.

Thanks for your contribution. Very mature. This forum is called "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly," is it not? If you are adverse to reading anything but the "Good," I'd suggest not reading these threads. I'm merely relating an experience. Do with it as you will.
