I was just browsing around another forum and found a link to these.

http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PMAKA=640-0422

They are a 12X8X3 Granite surface plate with a unilateral tolerance of .0001 I know that isn't the best but for lapping stuff nice and flat without a surface grinder it could be very nice. The kicker is if you use WEBPA9 for the promotional item code you get free UPS shipping... On a 80 pound block of granite. I know my UPS guy is going to hate me.

(note I am not associated with Enco by any means I just thought yall might find this useful)

I took advantage of that a while back and when UPS delivered it, they dropped it and chipped the corner just a bit, not much at all. I called Enco and they said to throw it away and they would send out a new one. Now I have one for sanding parts flat and one for measuring.

I have a granite plate, I use it every day for layout, sharpening, lapping, few other things too, probably my best investment, shipping cost more than the plate did, that's a great deal if you can get it shipped free.

I have the 8 by 12 and a 12 by 16. Love em both. I use the bigger one as my work space on the bench. It is the right height and easy to keep clean.

I picked one up, thanks for the heads up.

It would have been around $110 to my front door, now it's $36, thanks again.

I picked up a 18"x24"x3" and a 9"x12"x2" from Grizzly a couple weeks back. I'm glad that I live close enough that I didn't have to have them shipped. The wharehouse guy at Grizzly drove the 18"x24" plate out on a forklift. He seemed a bit suprised when I picked it up off the forks and tossed it onto the passenger seat of my Legacy (with my 2-yr old daughter waving to him from her car seat in the back the whole time). Now, putting it in thecar was easy... carrying it across my yard and downstairs to my shop was a bit more strenuous. Figured if I were to give myself a heart-attack, at least there'd be headstone material on-hand. ;)

I've been keeping an eye out for one of these and just ordered one here as well. Thanks for the notice!
