Great Eastern Cutlery: #66 - Equal End Serpentine

I love the 66 pattern. Here are a few 66 'calf ropers' out of my assortment:

Wow!! What a collection, Barry! Nice array - #66 is an exceptional pattern!!

Very nice! I think the blood red peach seed may be one of the early examples of peach seed. Charlie had been working with GEC on peach seed for a while. Now it's a staple jig pattern for GEC.

I think the 66/68 is one of their most well designed and practical 3 blade patterns. And they really knocked this run out of the park. Looking forward to carrying mine.

We were trying to make a jig as great as Schrade's Peachseed. Bill did a great job on that handful of knives!
I still have a 2-blade, but foolishly sold my last 3-blade.:(

Likewise. It's mid July and not so much as a wip pic yet. The Hemlocks must have been the Blood Reds gone bad like someone mentioned earlier.

All prior runs of green hemlock look similar to blood red. I like green hemlocks red tone over blood red because you don't risk ending up with pink near the bolsters.

Yup, I like DARK jigging in the middle. The spring green 62 Courthouse Whittler was a good example as well.

So what is the favorite of this run Barry?
I like 'em all! I'd have a hard time choosing one favorite, but the Tidioute with the corset shield is a beauty!

I meant to add that the bottom right NF was one of your SFO's, and could have been that very last 3 blade knife. One of seven made in 2011, it is one of my very favorites! Consider it on loan!!!! Thanks Charlie! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Which will stay and which will go I can't decide yet.

I like the wood for the smooth simple and natural material but I like the northfield trim and the snap is better on that one. Hmmmm

They are both beauties! You may regret selling either.:confused::oops:

I just got in the Tortoise Shell Acrylic from the factory, and they are very nice in Northfield trim; what I thought was a straight bar shield is actually serpentine and follows the shape of the frame. Really very nicely done along with the rest of the latest 66 run. I would note that the springs on the secondary blades of the current run are generally lighter than older model Calf Ropers that I have, not that it's a bad thing. The various shields on the run are an upgrade, in my eye anyway. Thanks Bill Howard and crew!

Thanks for confirming that. I kept blinking and looking at those pictures, thinking the curvature was an optical illusion. Pretty cool as it's probably the only cover on the only frame to get that shield.

I've been waiting to see one of those Oily Creeks! They look very interesting!
They look like they have a "profile". I hope someone shows a view from the backspring!!

Hopefully this doesn't start a firestorm, but is anyone else sensing hypocrisy regarding this run of 66s? What I mean is that most of us are acknowledging somewhat lazy secondary blades on several examples. Also, there's been some controversy on some of the dyed bone scales. If these examples were produced by Case, or Queen, people would be all up in arms. However, everyone seems to be accepting of these GECs. Please, don't take me wrong. I have an Oily Creek Bone and an Ebony out of this run that I'm satisfied with, despite any shortcomings. It just seems that there are some double standards. I've seen virtually flawless examples from all three companies, as well as some that could be better from each company. Just my observation, for what it's worth.
