I don't think the bulldogs are delrin, they are a lot more glassy (brittle).

is Delrin lighter then Micarta? I have to wonder because this knife is light and I have a box of canvas micarta that is NOT light.

What exactly is Delrin?

Delrin = Dupont's own trade name for Polyoxymethylene (POM). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyoxymethylene

There are about a zillion or so (;)) variations on Delrin, even as named by Dupont. This site of data sheets on the stuff sort of boggles the mind at the number of Dupont's own different mixes of it:

http://www2.dupont.com/Plastics/en_US/Products/Delrin/delrin_amer_data_sheets.html

EDIT:
The synthetic stuff on the Bulldogs, I'm guessing, might be the same as what is used on Eye Brand's sodbuster knives (if anybody knows what they use?). The Bulldogs are identical in pattern, size, etc.; only different in finish & color. I'm convinced they were likely made in the same factory as the Eye Brand versions. ETA: With either brand, I wouldn't characterize it as brittle. Harder maybe, but still seems like extremely strong stuff. I haven't used my Bulldogs since I bought them (stashed 'em away), but my Eye Brand large soddie seems extremely rigid when opening/closing the blade, which is backed by a very stiff spring. In fact, there's a bit of mis-alignment of the brass liners in it, and one liner visibly flexes inward, in the middle, when opening & closing. But the synthetic handle material doesn't flex, at least not visibly so.

The black delrin version is a little bit finer to me. Looks a little more elegant, not being out of the shape of a real working knife.

Kind regards
Andi

I don't know where you get "brittle". I've run over the big yellow one I bought from you a few times with my tractor (lay it on the tire, forget about it, drive off, run over the knife) with no damage to the covers. A few scratches and minor dings sure but no cracks, deformation/change in shape.

The link I sent to you was to show that there are alternatives to Delrin.

Regardless of the color, I'm looking forward to seeing your forthcoming Bull Nose Work Knife.

100 percent agreed. I think black will be more accepted all around. Not saying I don't want to see orange again down the road.

I wonder if the natural, i.e. white, delrin was ever considered. That'd be darn sharp looking.

It only takes a second...

Thanks! That looks nice also. This seems like a win-win :)

Ultimately I am very much looking forward to this coming out. Is it out yet?

Hmmmm I'm kinda diggin' the antique yellow, no bright yellow please however.

I understand the concept, but yellow/antique Canvas Micarta, smooth, would be cool.

I would buy the red in a heartbeat.

Ivory white would look really nice as well (natural color, from what I am reading)

I will borrow the words from Stevie and Paul...ebony and ivory! :D (the colors, not necessarily the material)

Fausto
