Great Eastern Cutlery ( GEC ) group shots / photo requests

Great pic FH. I really want a slim but not a big Turkish clip kinda guy. If they they used a swedged spear or their standard clip......I'd get one. If it was ebony, I'd get 2.

Do you have much blade rub on the slim?

No, there's no blade rub on my slim. With any multi-blade knife they will rub if you push hard laterally when opening. There's a bit of blade rub on my sfo Conductor and a tad on the Calf Roper stockman. I actually have 2 of the Calf Roper stockman and one is at GEC right now getting worked on because the blade rub was so bad, spey was rubbing one liner, the sheepsfoot was rubbing the spey and the main blade was rubbing the opposite liner. No rub on my example of the Slim though! :)

I actually like the clip on the slim, I think it looks cool but I know it's totally subjective and doesn't do it for everyone.

I feel the same way. I wanted to order a slim when I bought my #68, but I don't like the style clip they use. I decided to go with the #68 Pony Jack. I really like the style and proportions of this clip blade.

Yep, I really like the regular clip with long pull too. :)

But for the slim, it wouldn't have been as "slim" with the regular clip sticking up. This longer more slender clip fits down inside the frame and gives it a very low profile when closed, doesn't stick out past the frame much at all.

I have to admit .... That's a good looking swedg on that slim FH. Maybe I can get over that Turkish clip thing.

Photo requests, please:

1. A 68 White Owl next to a Victorinox 93mm alox model (Pioneer, Farmer, etc.) - blades closed and open
2. A 38 whittler next to a 33 whittler - blades closed and open

Thanks in advance!

I don't have a White Owl anymore, but I do have a #68 Pony Jack (same frame and dimensions) and can show it next to a 93mm Pioneer.

Very cool! I am a fan of art and knives! What size is it, if I may ask?

Sorry, I read your question earlier then got involved in civilian affairs, as happens, and just now realized I didn't respond. The painting is 6" x 6"-- meaning, remarkably, the knives are to scale.

Perfection.

(Best I can tell, my son posed and photographed the knives here at home all secret-like, then preserved their proportions when recreating them on canvas elsewhere.)

That's some mighty fine bone, there.

The Maker's Mark seal is a nice touch. :)

Comparison #73 and #48 - both single blade. Both are nearly the same length, but very different profile and handling. The #48 is all blade - a beautiful clip. The #73 is a tank.

Not nearly as neat as your son's gift, but I appreciate the compliment nonetheless. That H10 is the apple of her poppa's eye right now.

If you like Maker's, don't dare pass the next bottle of "Angel's Envy" you lay eyes on...lest the Bourbon Gods come for your soul ;)

Those are superbly offered comparison pics! *takes notes*

^^^ glad you found them helpful.
I had a hard time getting perspective on these from pictures. I thought the two side by side would be helpful.

It's fascinating how two "like" knives can be so very different, isn't it?!

I've cropped a few of your images from the post quoted above for the sake of brevity, but all are helpful.

There's nothing, but nothing, like being able to handle a knife or knives for oneself.

Short of that, thoughtful picture comparisons such as yours are invaluable, and the epitome of the information this this thread was created to present.

Thanks for taking the time to pose and post this illustrative comparison.

^^ Thank you. You are very welcome. I appreciate the feedback. I really like both patterns and are amazed at how different they are considering they are nearly the same size. I was comparing the #73 to a SAK Pioneer last night - again they are nearly the same size closed - handle sizes (including width and thickness) are nearly the same. Yet in the hand the #73 feels like a lot more knife. I'll post pics of the 73 vs SAK if there is interest. I find the SAK is a nice benchmark, most folks are familiar with that knife. There is a thread comparing Northwoods Presidential vs SAK Pioneer that I found to be very helpful.
