Pretty much where I’m at. They made it too hard, so my give-a-sh!tter broke.
Mine broke during the last economic turn down. It was never a first class "give-a-crap" attitude anyway if it was outside the parameters of my family and my business. Now... after all me, mine and my business have faced, I simply don't care. My personal opinion is that most of high priced buyers that simply have to have a new design or reissuance and will pay exorbitant prices are right here on BF. That's OK. But outside of BF, I don't know one regular civilian that has ever heard of GEC or its cousins. There is another folding knife website/forum that is all about pocket knives, and they aren't all about GEC like it is here.
So I say good for GEC for making a great product, one that holds it value (until used...), and creating an image that allows it to be a rare item on the market. This allows them to sell everything they make quite easily, which is
any manufacturer's dream. Their fan base is so dedicated that they anxiously wait for the moment they can buy a GEC, waiting by their computer to see if they get lucky, knowing that if they don't like the knife, they can hang onto it for a couple of months and actually make money. Sounds good all the way around. GEC sells
all their product, middle men make a ton from reselling, and collectors have something to spend their time and money on. Then they can come here, critique/brag/show off their purchases to other fans of the brand.
Just isn't for me. It makes me tired. My focus shifted many years ago and I just don't have to have much of anything these days, especially a luxury item. I am comfortable admiring GEC from afar, which I do often since I love some of their designs, but then I get a cup of coffee and do something else.
