Finally, Barlows suck. It’s a terrible, boring design. I’m all for utilitarianism but there’s a limit. A gray, rectangular Square D circuit breaker box has more personality than a Barlow. Getting ones panties in a twist because they missed out on a Barlow is like being pissed about the McRib sandwich not being available all year long.
Which, for the record, I am.:mad::mad:

I strongly feel that Blade Forums needs to invest in their own "Knife Buyin' Bot" The Platinum and maybe Gold members can subscribe to it and when a hot release is coming they can employ it to snag some of the cheddar.

Well, there is that sub-forum accessible only to Blade Forumites with Pirate level membership where GEC sells new releases one day before they hit the distributors.

The forum, you know, that we don't talk about...

A few years ago (2016) I thought I would buy a GEC knife. I wasn’t too concerned with the exact model, any stockman or jack pattern would do. Over a period of several months I tried several dealers and EBay and everyone I was interested in was out of stock so I finally put that behind me and gave up on GEC, not worth the trouble.
Pretty much where I’m at. They made it too hard, so my give-a-sh!tter broke.

Mine broke during the last economic turn down. It was never a first class "give-a-crap" attitude anyway if it was outside the parameters of my family and my business. Now... after all me, mine and my business have faced, I simply don't care. My personal opinion is that most of high priced buyers that simply have to have a new design or reissuance and will pay exorbitant prices are right here on BF. That's OK. But outside of BF, I don't know one regular civilian that has ever heard of GEC or its cousins. There is another folding knife website/forum that is all about pocket knives, and they aren't all about GEC like it is here.

So I say good for GEC for making a great product, one that holds it value (until used...), and creating an image that allows it to be a rare item on the market. This allows them to sell everything they make quite easily, which is any manufacturer's dream. Their fan base is so dedicated that they anxiously wait for the moment they can buy a GEC, waiting by their computer to see if they get lucky, knowing that if they don't like the knife, they can hang onto it for a couple of months and actually make money. Sounds good all the way around. GEC sells all their product, middle men make a ton from reselling, and collectors have something to spend their time and money on. Then they can come here, critique/brag/show off their purchases to other fans of the brand.

Just isn't for me. It makes me tired. My focus shifted many years ago and I just don't have to have much of anything these days, especially a luxury item. I am comfortable admiring GEC from afar, which I do often since I love some of their designs, but then I get a cup of coffee and do something else.

They aren't fried.

microwaved?

I haven’t eaten at a McDonalds in probably 20 years. All I know is that they have a lab and there’s some “pink goo” and they run tests on what will or won’t kill you if Jimmy the village idiot doesn’t cook it long enough.

You’re putting WAY too much thought into this.

GEC doesn’t make diddly if their Knives sell for double or triple on the secondary market. Just like Busse Combat or Weller whiskey or PlayStation 5’s or any other sought after, limited production product.

They make what they make and sell them at a price that they feel keeps them profitable. Why would they give a hoot what happens beyond that?

If it cost me $2 to make a widget and I can keep my business afloat, bank what I think I’ll need to live happily and be competitive by selling X amount at $4 each, why would I care if someone buys ten of them and sells them at $40 each?

Do you honestly think Elon Musk will give f*** one if, next year, a used Plaid edition sells for twice what it lists for today?

I’ll buy your used Barlows then.
