Great Eastern open house

Guys please mention to them that they'd sell at least one copy of a #12 jack in elk.

This year's rendezvous knives:

I'll be there tomorrow (Thurs., 7/19). I doubt my small camera and/or I will be able to do justice to much of what I see, however, especially at the distances indicated by this picture:

Beautiful knives, Trand! Looks like the swedges are specially done. Are the blades ground extra thin?

Thanks in advance P.

Care to elaborate, ie, what did you enjoy about your time there?

Got to see the various stages of building a pocketknife, and met some of the people who create them. Was lucky enough to buy a rendevous special knife. Met several forum people, some from BF, and some from other forums I check in on.
There was a Knife show across town, and I managed to score some nice Schrade Cut Co knives.
Had dinner and a couple of beers with Bill Howard, who owns Great Eastern. Now there is a guy who lives and breathes knives! He gives birth to them like they are his children, and he is proud of every one!
And no-one knows the recent history of pocket knife production like Bill; a good 40 years plus of experience.
At the motel where I was staying, many of us sat up for hours at night, checking out various collections that people were happy to show off, and generally talking knives.
It was over much too soon!!

Trand, that lockback is awesome! What kind of wood is that? Will they be made in the future?

Very interesting Charlie. I wish I could have been there, sounds like a wonderful time. Thanks.

A quick visit to the site and I answered one question. American walnut and its beautiful.

I thought this was going to be the year, but as of yesterday things have changed. Maybe 2013.

Sorry to hear that trips 5, thats stinks man. :thumbdn:
Get up here sometime, make it a priority.

My mission this year is to talk Bill into a Lanny's clip, Camp knife and Peanut.
I got a few thousand fake petitions signed and ready to go. :D

would be really cool to see it all, but i likely wouldve been too busy looking for whaler parts! "ummm, nevermind me i'm just cobbling together a whaler!, nothing to see here":D

I agree. All three of those knives would break me out of my, "no new knives for a year" cave :)

What!!!
No new knives??????

Kevin, is that you?
That #85 must be a rogue, they usually talk us into buying others, because they need friends.

I know Johnny. I don't even feel like myself! Its been a real challenge! I will say this, the 85 is some kind of rogue, your right. The longer I carry and use it the more I can't imagine setting it aside.

I still have half the fun seeing all the awesome pics of the knives you guys get though :)
