Greetings All

I want to check interest in holding an event in N.E. Ill. in June sometime. I have a friend and customer who runs a pub with a small park attached and he has offered the use of the park. Lots of parking and space to throw a tent if you want to spend the night. At this time he says that he will supply soda, coffee, some food, electric, and tarps if we need them. The best part is it's right on the banks of the Fox river. You could call it "Forging on The Fox" but I don't want it to be all forging. I want to see some grinders out there too. If we could get a few people to give mini demos I think we might have a good thing on our hands. And when all the forging and grinding is done there is always the pub that we get the run of. He is even putting up a sign in a corner that has a table and a couple of chairs that says "Knifemakers Corner". This guy likes knives and Knifemakers. So, what do you say? Any demonstrators and participants out there?

Hmmmm, I was thinking, it dosn't have to be in June. It could be in July or even August. What could be better then jumping into the river after a hot day of forge or grinder work. Something to think on.

I like the part about jumpin' in the river after a day's forging.

Call the date....folks will come.

Hello
I'm the guy with the pub.I'm pretty open for dates as I really havent got anything planned for the park as of yet.I'm glad to hear about the interest and will get together with Bob and try to get something concrete for you all to work with. Thanks for the interest.I'm not sure if my profile has my email so here it is: panmead@comcast.net
Feel free to email me with any suggestions.

Rob

I certainly would like to be a spectator if you will take a few of those on hand. Can you give a physical address so that I can do a map quest and see how far you are from Lansing, MI. Sounds like a great idea to me.

East Lansing, MI

Sure thing Bushbow. The address is 906 porten road,Mchenry Il. 60051.The park is around 4-5 acres and right on the river, set back in a quiet neighborhood.I always talk knives with my customers at the bar and there will likely be a good turnout of local spectators.

Is that the road that runs along the east bank of the river? Meaning, does one take 120 west from Waukegan and turn left there at the stoplight? :)

No Fitzo, you're thinking of River Road.To get here you'd want to head west on rte.176 When you get into Island Lake you want to turn left at Roberts road, take that down about a mile or so and turn right on Porten Road. This comes to a stop sign at a T-intersection,turn right and follow the road around up over a small hill and you cant miss the bar.Stop by anytime ...we're open 7 days a week.Hope to see you.

Thanks, Rob. Obviously I'm not real familiar with McHenry County! :( We'll have to stop by some time and say hi.

Looks like we are going to try for July 16.If you are interested in heading up a demo/class contact Bob Rossdeutscher as he's more able to put the technical side of it together.Otherwise feel free to contact me with any info/questions.

thanks

Rob

Thats a great idea Bob. If there is anything I can demo i would be more than happy to help out. I am going out of town the 3rd week in July but i am available any other tim. Tell me what i can do.

Thanks

Michael

Hey Mike
I looked at the calender. Are you talking the third full week? Or will you be gone including the the 16th? I would like to get you to talk about the way you do handles. I thought I would do a demo on forging historical correct spike hawks quick and easy.
Let me know

Bob

We are leaving on the 18th of July so count me in for at least 1 day. Should i bring stuff to show how I do handles or do you just want me to talk about it?
Is this going to be at your house or in the park near the Bar.
You know what? It doesnt matter, You tell me what to bring and where to go and I'll be there.

Michael

The event in planning sounds great, I would love to come, i just need to make sure that it isn't the week of WW, (an event that i take my forge to every year)
