Great Lakes Knifemakers

Mike-----Yes, bring some things to show how you do your handles as well as talk about it. Yes, it will be at the park.

Ironwolf----If you can make it great! If you could bring your forge and demo something, even better.

S.Shepherd----I want this to be about knife making in all its many forms. Forging, grinding, handles, guards and sheaths, if I can get someone to demo it. I don't want to have the person chained to it though. I want the people doing the demos to be able to get around and see things also. So, anything you want to demo?

When talking to the locals at the tavern ,there is plenty of interest on thier part to come down and watch/take part.So there should be a good turn out of spectators.Lots of hunter/fisherman here too,so it wouldn't hurt to bring along a few samples of your work, and maybe we can show a few more folks the worth and value of a handmade knife.

Again,thanks for the interest

Rob

Like Rob said, samples of your work for a show and tell would be great. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or not, come with an open mind and you will walk away with info you can use. Maybe we can also get some tailgate sales going. Bring the stuff you want to sell, give away or trade. You never know what treasures are out there waiting for you.
YMHS--------------Bob

Probably most folks are busy at Blade.Just wanted to bring this back up and see if there is still interest on the date...July 16.

Thanks

Rob

This is still on.I have been meaning to post again...so thanks for bringing it back.As of now there are a few more makers that have expressed interest,Mark Steinbrecher,Jerry Rados, and Jim Smyth. Not sure if they will be doing any demos or not,but I'm planning on having a good time. The date again is July 16th.Time to start isn't definite, but I'm leaning towards 10-11 a.m...and running as long as folks stay.I'll probably get a couple of big tents in case of bad weather.or just for shade, and most likely gonna roast a pig and have a few other things for grillin.I can get a generator if there is a need for any type of electrical equipment .The location is in the far NW suburbs of Chicago, town called Island Lake.I can get directions to any who are interested.Of course show and tell would be nice,I'll have a few of my collection on hand to show and/or talk about.

Thanks

Rob

Glad your interested Karl,it would be great to have you out.If your interested in doing any type of demo or talk,or anything of that sort just contact either Bob or myself(that goes for any of you out there)

thanks

Rob

I see Karl beat me to it, I'll be riding with him or he'll be riding with me. One way or the other we should be there. Surprisingly my wife doesn't have a problem with me going.......that worries me :D

BTTT one more time.

This one is only a week and a half away. I already have the route programmed into my GPS, so I am all set. I plan on spending the night, just because if it is next to a tavern, I won't beable to resist having a few with my good friend Mr. J. Daniels.

Hope to see a bunch of you there.

The jury will be out on whether I'll make it for the day. Health considerations will dictate that and I'm having doubts. I sure hope to get to meet a bunch of you and renew acquantices with others, though.

Sean, we have special microwave towers to mess with Michigan GPS units. Remember to call once the sign reads "Welcome to Iowa". :p :D

Glad you're coming out Sean! It's starting to take shape now.Fitzo I hope things are good for you to make it.It looks as if we have 10 makers that have shown interest in coming now,and a few more that are still playing it by ear,so I think the knife portion of the day will be rewarding(I know it will be for me).On my end,I have the pig on order, and the local interest is growing,so it looks as if it might be a decent size gathering.I'm looking forward to meeting everyone, and if there is anything that you think I should have on hand let me know and I'll do my best to have it.Power in the park will be limited, but i do have access to generators.

If you are coming out, bring this number with you:847 772 2726.I will have that phone with me and will be able to talk you in in case you get lost.

Thanks

Rob

Greetings All,
Well, looks like things are coming together. We've got another demonstrator, Mark Nevling of Burr Oak Forge is coming up to demo sheath making and maybe talk a little about the way he does folders. His wife plans to do a little lamp work and make some glass beads, not knife related but cool none the less. ( Hey guys, maybe your wife or girl friend, OR, your wife and girl friend would be interested. )
Also, I want to throw out there, that this would be a great place for some tailgate sales. Got supplies or tools you don't need anymore? Bring them along, somebody may want the stuff that's just taking up space in your shop.

Just want to get this out here again. This is this weekend, july 16,and it's shaping up to be a good time.Anyone with interest feel free to email me at panmead@comcast.net with any questions, comments or concerns.I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.

Thanks

Rob
