Greatest sharpening challenges

My toughest one lately was a very worn chef's knife. The owner had recieved it as a wedding present 20 years ago, and had never sharpened it. The edge was litterally breaking off in curls as I cut into it with the 220 grit waterstone. All that eventually stopped and I got a hair whittling edge off the white Sharpmaker stones with no stropping needed.
