Green Beret and Pacific

Stage 2 - our mod politely asked that you refrain from bringing up the Noss tests in W&SS. He is the mod and we all like him and respect him very much. Please respect his opinion in the matter.

You can go to W&C or other places and raise a thread about anti-Noss sentiments or whatever you like. Brian's reasons for posting what he said are well exemplified in Knife Reviews & Testing and CRK where endless debate on minutia of details has did little to enrich the experience and information in the subforums. He doesn't want the same crowd here and that is understandable.

I was actually answering his direct question. Seems only polite don't you think?

since we are all knife knuts on here i figure we are seeking what we think as the perfect knife but i remember when i was young and without funds i used what i had and could afford. doing so i learned to work around the design of the knife.

my first fixed blade was a hollow handled survival knife from gutman cutlery. it had a compact 5 1/2 blade of 440b stainless with short hollow ground blade. this was a decent knife for a kid with a street price around $50. it served me well throughout my childhood.

later on in my 20's i bought a gryphon m30a1 combat knife designed by Bob Terzuola for my field knife. it has many of the design elements that the GB has with a fighting profile with ATS-34 steel. it always got the job done too.

i've since moved on and only buy knives with certain design features now but i still got by with the ones that were not perfect. people should use and carry what makes them happy instead of going by some internet guy's tests imo.

Ken, appreciate the defense and your very kind words...however, Stage 2 was, in fact, responding to my question. I broke my own rule but was curious about any parts of Noss' tests that may have included demonstrated wilderness stuff. :)
