Hello,

I just read in the General Forum at BF that the GB knife comes with a standard BlackHawk sheath. The sheath is not designed specifically for the GB knife, so it does not fit properly.

Is this correct ? They are selling a premium knife with a sheath that does not fit the knife properly ?

Do you think it is to much to suggest a sheath that is designed to fit the GB knife properly.

I bought a Becker #7 and had a sheath problem, it had to much slop and it drives me crazy !!

Thank you,

JB :)

300 duckies spent on a knife, it'd better slice through that screw like butter.

I have the CRK GB. I'd prefer a SOE or EAGLE sheath myself.

Jack,

I was the one that reported the tip chipping on my GB when it hit the screw post in the sheath. For the record I am truly convinced that this was a complete fluke!!! This may just be a defect in my sheath in which the screw was a bit higher up on the sheath than normal (but then again, I have no idea what normal is in this case). What I forgot to mention was that when placing the knife back into the sheath I noticed that the blade had some play around the area of the screw post and that play may have caused the blade to chip. But like I said in a previous post, the problem will be taken care of by CRK and I have full confidence in their knives and quality of service.

The GB's I have had run through me have had sheaths that were not sloppy. The sheaths give some movement when the knife is not inserted completely. My personal GB does not have play in it when it is in the sheath. This seems to be the first sheath problem we have heard about. The sheath is made by a third party and the problem was not noticed and got out. CRK WILL make it right! The sheath is no way in the same class as the beckers...and the becker is not bad, the looseness has several "fixes" if you like a tighter fit. I have both.
Also are you sure that blackhawk is/was not modified by the factory to the sizes that the GB is? The fit on mine is "spot on" for edge to spine and blade thickness. Do YOU own ANY CRK or do you just like to drag them into anything you can ? The issues you bring up have all been a "well he said" "they did" or a "someone who did something goofy was using a CRK".... NONE of you accusations have been in the first party. Last month it was dragging them into gov't testing and this month it is a "problem" with a third party sheath that was/is a fluke at this point. Yes they provide the sheath BUT they will make it right. The sheath was also chosen because of the need for it to meet milspec and Blackhawk is a reputable military supplier with a great reputation, though they can have a mistake here and there like anyone else, they also will make it right. Are you a living example of perfection- never making a mistake. IT is how things are handled WHEN- NOT IF things go wrong that seperate the best from the rest. Please come back to the forum and join in at times when you don't seem so quick to well... anyhow please come back and ask questions and join discussions at times other than you have been....

I took it in and out of the sheath. I put the knife along the backside. It is a fluke. I have at least 9-10MM of space between the tip and the screw. It also fits snug with no slop.

I'd still prefer a SOE or EAGLE though.

Tallpaul:

I am sure there was no malice here towards CRK or BHI.
Relax.

I have no complaints with my sheath. I am looking into a custom Kydex though as I will be taking it with me. Just need to find one in an "extreme hurry".

TallPaul - I agree with you 100%.

Execution Style - read the last JACKBOOTS post about CRK and the Green Beret and see if you don't sense just a bit of something strange. This gentleman seems to have an ax to grind.

Jackboots - Back again with more complaints about CRK Green Beret, but it doesn't sound like you have handled one or own one yet. I pulled my GB out last night and the sheath fits perfectly. Why suggest that the sheath was improperly designed after simply reading a comment by someone else? ANY respected knifemaker deserves more way more credit than that.

As I asked you in your "govt. testing" post, what is your beef against CRK?

Wasted energy...I am done with this.

Re: Custom Kydex

Contact Dan at Tactical Tailor. He can put you in touch with "a guy we know". Also, check out the following thread (same guy Dan knows)

Keep head down!

Here are a few pictures... the kydex insert is resting on the handle slab which makes the hole for the screw about a 1/4 inch closer to the blade tip than when inserted in the sheath in the normal fashion.

this is how far the knife inserts normally- notice the distance from the handle material that I rested the insert against for the earlier pics...

Please see my last post regarding my knife.

Hey guys,

I just received an email from Bridget regarding my GB. Check it out.

Hi Ken:

We received the Green Beret knife today. We are going to replace the handles for you as you are correct that the one pin does go down way to far. We are also going to send you out a new sheath as the one you had was defective…I am terribly sorry about that. The plastic slab that was in the sheath sank down way to far in the sheath and this is why the tip of the knife got broke off. It was hitting the screw just as you suspected it was. We will also get the tip fixed for you. I should be able to ship the knife back out to you by middle of next week.

Again, I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience. This was definitely just a fluke...first time this has happened!!

Thank you Ken and please let me know if you have any other questions.

J Bridget

Anyone contemplating a custom Kydex sheath for their GB may want to take a peek at:

Makers & Manufacturers Forums>Busse Combat>GPB Sheaths

There are some pics of MedOps Project 1 in the latter half of the thread.

BTW, all of the "stock" sheaths I've ever seen from CRK fit beautifully.

Sorry, I'm new.
