green pm2 waiting list

Tie up funds for over a year commissioning a special run of knives,
offer preorder slots for $20 on a discounted price,
then offer your customers an equal chance at left overs knives - at the same low discount price.

What a hiney wipe, at least that's what I'm getting from these responses.

I would adopt the Bento Box / Hinderer dealer pricing scheme after reading this if I was a dealer.
Your going to get reamed either way, right? Might as well sell the leftovers at full retail.

Good thing we have guys like Roger as dealers instead of me, huh.

Laughing...been thinking the same thing about myself. :D

Better take a bit longer and consume a few more man-hours than have a bunch of customers who are now pretty steamed at you.

Yeah, there is that, but with the buildup and delay this one had, hard feelings were probably almost guaranteed. :(

Yeah, BBS is right at the very top of what Spyderco would allow to sell them for. MSRP is +/- $200, they are already at $189...$179 during the first run. I'm sure their itching to raise it again. That site is a complete ream job. I refuse to give them my business. That's what people should do if they are unhappy, vote with your wallet. Got my blue ones on the secondary before the craze so I made out real good.

I'm happy with Roger :D

There is one place I know of that charges more than BBS...ever buy a knife from Spyderco??? ;) Outrageous, they charge full MSRP!!! :D

This is fun. I think I'm gonna get me some popcorn and hang out a while:)

In all honesty my sympathy to those who didn't score and congrats to those that did. Interesting observation on KW and the way they operate. I'll definitely think twice about any preordering with them.

They are considering not doing preorders anymore, so all models will be released for a server-melting session once they are ready to ship, and only the flippers will get them. We'll all have to pay aftermarket prices, same as when you want to buy concert tickets now.

KW does not mark up these types of runs like some folks.
They often sell out fast. And more folks want them they can provide now and then.
Two per person, then one per person with the ones that folks canceled on.
Canceled orders get a full refund BTW.
Its runs like this that keep me in the hobby. (And many others)
KW customer service is the best around. Period.
So, maybe a new way of handling these should be looked at.
Some runs blow out in days. Some KW runs sit on the shelf for yrs.
Who can predict what runs will do what? :D
Big thumbs up to KW for handling these things as fairly as possible.
Folks are fickle with pre orders etc. Plus the extra work involved maintaining lists. Not to mention back up lists.
These runs are gifts IMO. And I am 100% in favor of them.

So what do you want them to do exactly? Theyre pushing to add another 400 pieces to this run due to the demand. People cried because the first 700 was preordered, and now people are gonna moan that this potential 400 extra pieces to satisfy demand is first come first serve.

To me, it was never about KW or Spyderco. My only gripe was how a PM2 suddenly became a $300 knife and everybody seemed ok with that. Someone just sold one on the exchange for $150, there is hope yet.

Its funny that they are adding more pieces to satisfy customers but more crying will ensue because not everyone will be able to get it.

You sure the buyer won't just turn around and sell it for $300?

It will be a repeat of Thursday morning- their website will be slammed, after 10 minutes of waiting and trying to check out people will be getting server errors, and then mysteriously they will be sold out. And somehow the SCALPERS will still be able to get theirs. (I decided that FLIPPER was not an appropriate term, SCALPER is a more appropriate term just like with concert tickets.)

I'm sure the still have the waiting list, they could just start with that. And it was not a lot of trouble to maintain the waiting list, they just moved the emails that they received into a folder somewhere. When they wanted to notify people on the waiting list they just started replying to the emails. And their email software will maintain the emails in order that they were received.

If this is the case, then they better get something done about their server or whatever it was that caused it to melt down the last time.

As much as I appreciate another shot at getting one, I dont know if I could handle dealing with the same disappointment. But at least there will be more on the market and hopefully this will bring the price down.

"Due to the overwhelming demand of this product, we do have the option to run 400 extra pieces of the Spyderco Para Military and we will try to get this done., As of now we do not have any time or date on these, We will update as soon as we get information, we will not pre-order this item, but we will take email's to be notified as when they will be up for sale." Yes, I still think this is the right way to do it. Getting on the list timeously and then waiting over a year should count for something.

Buffalohump, have you purchased anything from Knifeworks recently ? I noticed you're in South Africa. Chuck/Singularity (Philippines) posted he had a problem with the preorder way back on 2-16-2012 on the Spyderco forum. Quoting his post: "I can't pay the deposit. I get a message that an error occurred while paying and the seller declined the payment."

You might want to double check that you can buy, before you want to buy. Just in case.

Never had a prob buying from KW. I see they dont take PP anymore but other than that, its all good for me. Thanks for asking. :p
