As you can only imagine...I'm a knife enthusiast and have acquired some excellent knowledge here on the forum along with some excellent blades I wouldn't have known about if it weren't for you.

Most of my knives are fixed blades and I'm coming back around now to folders, but only the good stuff. The mid-techs. The over built, tank style, well engineered stuff that I can use with confidence and enjoyment. I'm all about, buy it once and pass it on to my son's. That's just me. I don't mind spending the money if it's, "that good".

So I just became infatuated with Medford Knife and Tool on my search for a high end folder. Love their designs, quality good 'ol made in the U.S. manufacturing and parts, Veteran run and owned business. It all lines up with my values. I'm a Veteran too. I love America. I love the Freedoms we have here because of the sacrifices so many before us made (Veteran or Not).

Here's my point...yes I'm getting there...The #1 reason I buy a knife is because of the person that represents it, made it or otherwise stands behind it. Call me old fashioned, but that's the truth.

I'm going to buy an MKT no matter what because I believe their company is run by excellent leadership. Greg and his crew have built something exquisite.

For those that disagree...or have had an experience less than favorable...well...I'm sorry. Negative feedback should be dealt with one on one. Not here on the forum where it skews other peoples perceptions in one direction before they even get a chance to form their own.

I guess this where I opened up a can of worms so please....if you have something constructive to say, please have at it. I want to know more about MKT. That's why I'm reaching out to you.

So you want feedback about the company but no negative feedback is allowed?

Do you own or have you used a Medford tool, even? It sounds like your just a fan of the company...

Just keep it respectful...that's all.

I had a Micro Praetorian. It was really nicely made and fun to carry. The blade was a little too thick to really excel at slicing, but I still enjoyed using it. I don't know anything about Greg Medford himself (I know there are a lot of opinions about him but I've tried to stay out of it). One thing I do find annoying is their weird list of "rules" that come with the knife:

Is that 187 RMP a good slicer? It looks like a damn good knife. I'm looking at that, the flipper or dpt to start.

I'm not sure, that's evilgreg's knife and photo. I can say that the Micro Praetorian is not a great slicer.

I am a big fan of Greg and his knives.

For one, not many makers put themselves and their company out there for everyone to see.
That's a big plus for us buyers as we know EXACTLY where the knife came from and how it was made.

It also leaves Greg open to a lot of personal and professional scrutiny. He may or may not deserve some of that, but at least he doesn't hide who he is, and how and why he makes the knives he does.

I wish every knife company/maker, big or small, could let us see so much, so we could really make a much more informed decision about their products.

As far as the knives themselves, they are exceptionally well built. Fit and finish is really as good as it gets.
The knives are a great reflection of Greg, Stubbornly American, he makes no compromise to his vision of what a knife should be.
They feel like nothing else when you get one in hand, especially the Praetorian's and the TFF(X) series....

As far as being competent as a knife (after all that's kinda important) that comes down to a personal decision.
They work very well for many tasks and can easily make a great EDC, but again, that depends on what your idea is of an 'EDC' and what you require your knife to do....

Greg has done us all a huge favor by putting every aspect of himself and his knives out there for everyone to see.
Whether or not you like him or his knives is a personal decision, however it's hard not to respect the fact that he allows you to make that decision with full disclosure on his end....

I have him in my Facebook feed. Definitely has a outgoing personality and polarizing but I've never seen anything "bad". He likes what he does, he likes showing what he does and that's that.

That big list of "don't" clearly comes from from past experience of people who "did", and then afterwards put their hand up for help.

Well said.

There are a lot of knife companies that are, or have revised their list of "do not do's" because to be quite honest, a lot of people who don't have the aptitude to take a knife apart and put it back together correctly, go crying straight back to the maker.
Sometimes they even post in forums about how a knife is 'junk' not realizing they messed it up....

I dislike medfords. He hasnt made a single knife I can take seriously. Before someone tries clubbing me with their praetorian I should clarify that its simply a personal preference. But I am sorta sad nothing really sits well with me because he does seem to genuinely care for his employees and his work. I just dont connect with it. But if I did I would be honored to buy one of his products.

I've been eyeing a Viper for a long time now and I've thought about pulling the trigger on one but I've started looking at other knives that have been attracting me as well. So at this point I would say Medford makes a good product of it's what you are into. I've handled someone's personal Praetorian that they had stopped or sharpened, can't remember what he said he did, but it was shaving sharp. Just what I've experienced. To me they are nice knives but I'm just looking into others before looking into a Medford. Just my 2 cents.

Whew, that's a solid single spaced page long list of rules. I have feelings about it, but I've never seen or used a Medford so I'll withhold them.

I own a RMP and a TFF-1, love them both. No, they aren't the best EDC around, but they have character a lot of knifes don't. I actually LIKE that list of "don't", which mostly pertain to not opening the knife. I am more than happy to not have to ever worry about opening my knife to deal with a problem--now THATS confidence in your blade.
