Greg Medford of Medford Knife and Tool

So i use to think greg was a odd thinking man but as i have grown older and wiser i agree more and more with his train of thought, he is proud of his country and his believes. i had a micro preatorian but i didnt really like fit in my hand and now the 187 i own is awesome super comfy and is the craziest largest thickest knife i have ever held. Its way to big for edc everyday for my taste but its very nice and unique knife to own and a great value. I highly recommend the knives as they are beasts but at same time razor freaking sharp. Both medfords i have owned have very nice hollow grinds that cut exceptional.

I also had issues with Medford himself, which I mentioned during my thread in the knife review section on here. Basically, I got a bum knife with issues, and when I called Medford about those issues, he asked me if I was a knife collector, then said he doesn't like selling knives to collectors since they get "anal" about details.

I get it, business owners don't like customer complaints. That's just how it is. Even so, without those customers, there is no business to own. Any decent business takes care of its customers. For some reason, people into knives seem to be OK with horrible customer service...as long as it doesn't happen to them.

I haven't owned a Medford. I don't like the designs anywhere near enough to pay the asking price. I have looked over a couple and wasn't overly impressed.

My comment here, however, is an observation on the nature of the discussion in this thread. I think some posters here would see the nature of their posts differently if looking from an outside perspective like I am.

I have yet to hear a glowing review of Medford's service. I've seen dozens of highly negative reviews. Even considering the natural weight toward negative reviews, these cases are disproportionately negative in number and disproportionately negative in intensity. True or not true, whether positive or negative, the reviews here and elsewhere paint a clear picture.

I really can't disagree with anything you wrote. My other Medfords are perfectly assembled and my green 187 was my first knife purchase above $200.00. My buddy works for Sandvik and we talk about what it costs to produce a machined product here in the states. I sure don't know what it actually costs to make a DPT 187 , but it is an awesome knife. I get what Greg says and I know a lot of dudes like him from the military. It just sucks Greg doesn't do customer service very well. I was drinking the Kool-aid, til I got b-slapped over the phone, lol.

Hey DangCat,

Just following up. Did Medford ever square you away on the repairing the 187?

I havent had to send anything in. But I've felt with Amy through emails and my expierence has been very pleasant. I own afew Medfords.

Nah, the whole reason I posted at all was that's how the situation went. So a warranty from Medford is only good if Greg Medford says there is a warranty.

I should have known that was how he was anyway. I deal with jerks like him everyday and I kicked myself for not putting aside my hopes and reading him for the control freak he is.

So I got the knife back and showed it to my wife. I had her open and close the good one, then open and close the bad one. "It feels herky-jerky opening it", she said. ( and I remind anyone reading that when I mentioned the "good 187" he started making excuses saying the bad knife was older, etc. etc. even though they were made two months apart )

I am going to pick up a .250" spanner nut bit and fix it myself.

The knives are well made but I will never buy another Medford product.

There is not a problem with Amy and she wants to stand by her husbands product. But that's how this BS started. She wants to do the right thing, Greg doesn't want to be questioned or admit a problem.

That's sad, unfortunate, and unacceptable. Reading back on your posts, it sounds like you navigated the situation the best way you possibly could and Medford should have stepped up and resolved the matter.

That was also my experience. Amy seemed really helpful but her husband steps in and gets everything sideways. Maybe he should just stay away completely from customer service and have faith in his wives decision.
