Greg Wall Knives

I thought I’d share my story about this this guy with everybody. Maybe it’ll help out a few of you guys. I too purchased two first blood knives from this guy back in December 29 2023. I unfortunately found this forum after I forwarded him $645. My story starts out the same as the rest of you guys, he said 12 to 14 weeks I would have the knives. March 2024 came and went and no knives. I emailed him in April 2024 and like most of you. He had an excuse why they weren’t built yet. He told me he’d have them done by the end of May. The end of May arrived and still nothing from him. I emailed him several times the month of June and all the sudden the communication stopped. He would not email me back. The difference with my story is is that I purchased these knives through PayPal and that guarantees me either the knives or my money back. You only have 180 days which is six months to file a complaint with PayPal. I didn’t realize that until I filed my complaint on 24 June and they told me it was day 179. Thank God I did what I did. With in an hour, they contacted and lo and behold. He contacted me after one month of no communication. He gave me an excuse that he didn’t know what happened to the emails. He had used that excuse with me before, but it’s funny when I involve PayPal all of a sudden there he was wanted to communicate with me. Once again he had nothing but excuses, he told me he had to get a couple knives down for some Veterans for memorial day. What do you know? I’m a combat disabled veteran myself and here he is taking advantage of me. I did make sure he knew that. He said he would have my knife done in two weeks, which would be the second week of July and I just needed to cancel the complaint with PayPal. Over the next couple days I was amazed how many times he emailed me. I also emailed PayPal and told them what he wanted me to do and they told me whatever I do do not cancel the complaint until I either have the knives in hand or money reimbursed from them. He kept wanted me to trust him and I said well now it’s time to trust me. I said I will cancel the complaint with PayPal when I have the knives in hand and I will pay the remaining balance once I receive them at my residence. To my surprise he agreed with this, but he also couldn’t afford to lose PayPal as a payment source because of the fact that he sells knives on eBay. That is actually where I found him and I tracked him down on the web. Now I wish I never would’ve found him. I got an email from him last week with the tracking number and I received the knife yesterday. I will say the quality is pretty good for a $500 custom knife and so is the leather sheath. I wish it would’ve came with a sharpening stone, but oh well I’m just glad I got the knife. One of the knives was supposed to be made with D2 steel which he upgraded both knives to that steel for all the inconvenience at his cost. I really have no way of telling if he did that because the blade isn’t marked with what steel he used. He offered me 15% off on my next purchase for all the inconvenience, but as someone in this blog already stated I believe that I have purchased my first and last knives from this individual. Long story short, I have been using PayPal since May 2000 and it is the best way to buy anything online because you always guaranteed to either get the item or get your money back. It cost nothing to use, and it gives you peace of mind. Had it not been for PayPal I know I’d still be waiting for both of these knives from him. As I am a man of my word, I will be paying him the rest of money in full tonight and then that’ll be it.

Thanks, I paid in the same manner so I will try this. The guys needs to be honest about how long it takes and not accept orders if he cannot fulfill them. Bad reputation.

Appreciate you sharing!! I am going on over 2 years-- Its past EBAYS 45 day RETURN! I dont know what I am gonna do .. I don't want to let him just take my money.. I cannot believe he wont refund my money or even partial..
Anyone have any ideas? Hiring attorney for a 700$ knife sounds stupid but maybe if everyone gets the same attorney to handle 1 case?

I took this approach just recently. Office of Tennessee Attorney General contacted me after around a week and then Greg contacted me around a week later. He tells me he is dispatching my knife this week. The consumer specialist with the Office of Tennessee Attorney General was great, very friendly and diligent.
I know Greg is a single knife maker, and given his quality work is likely very inundated with orders but it shouldn't take this to get communication from him. It's a real shame. Reputation and credibility is vital in business and he has chosen a very niche field. He needs to be much more open and honest about time-frames with people. If it's a year then just say so. Just don't go radio silent on your customers and don't demand full payment up front.
I'll let everyone know if he actually dispatches the knife.

Hey, any of y’all who were waiting get your blades yet? I’m about a year and a half in now. Made the mistake of paying up front. Today I got a “just moved shop” email after I sent a message asking for an ETA.

just wanted to UPDATE everyone!! Well to my surprise the kNIFE ARRIVED!,,,,, He made is EXACTLY to my specs!! I do love the knife!

I am shaking my head with Greg because I want to be made but now I cant! It seems a few of us who got shafted he has FIX the situation!

I told Greg today-- YOU GOTTA FIX the situation with Bladeforum,, You gotta get these guys their knives and restore the confidence!

He told me he WILL GET EVERYONE WHOLE! BUt he will not be doing custom orders any long WHICH I respect what he says - however I wish he would still
take custom order because I really like how he makes his knives vs a few makers- I have used past!!

Anyways - I told him I would still buy another knife from him when its ready!

IF anyone who is still WAITING FOR A KNIFE WANTS TO PM me I will DIG into it with Greg for you!! please PM Me

So after nearly two years, contact with the Office of Tennessee Attorney General, I finally received a knife (a first blood copy in D2). It arrived with so many defects, I immediately contacted Greg with images and sent the knife straight back. In short, the blade was chemically stained, the saw teeth were way to wide and uneven, the blade was bent to left and the scabbard was scratched and damaged. Initially, Greg was quite concerned and offered to provide me a new knife.

This knife ended taking almost another year and when it arrived around a week ago, I swear it was the same knife with very few changes (the blade had clearly been resurfaced) and all the previous problems remained. The horrible saw teeth, the blade warp, certainly not tolerable in what is essentially a $1000AUD knife. Astoundingly, I had ordered a screen accurate green hilt wrap and this time Greg had sent me a black hilt wrap.

I emailed Greg and he said he'd refund it (once he accumulated the funds) and that I could keep the knife. Should Greg actually refund the knife, I will certainly return it to him regardless.

At the end of this journey, I can sum up my experience in dealing with Greg Wall Handmade Knives as being seriously not worth it. He is spotty in communications, lazy and mediocre in production and way out of line in the amount of time he takes to fulfill any order based on the skill (or lack of) that he exhibits.

You'd better off buying a cheaply made Chinese or Pakistani movie replica. What a waste of time, money and effort.
Choose to interact with Greg at your own peril.

Just coming back to this thread to say I did receive the knife in spring 2024. Credit where it's due, it turned out pretty nice. It's not perfect, but for the price, I am happy with it.

The teeth are spaced very evenly (which I know was an issue with Greg's earlier stuff), the blade is finished nicely, the wrapping on the handle is perfect and the end cap is very nicely made. Minor issues are the guard isn't perfectly centered (fortunately, the longer end faces downward, so it doesn't look bad, just not correct) and for whatever reason, the "channel" that is ground lengthwise down the center of the teeth is quite wide, whereas the full size version (mine is the "mid size") has a narrow channel, like on the original Lile. I would prefer it if the channel were the same as the original because the wider channel gives the blade a cheaper appearance.

All said, although the knife is fine for the price, I wish I had not been so into the idea of a FB copy and had, instead, gone with a Sam Wilson knife for a couple hundred more dollars. From what I can see, his knives are painstakingly made and very sturdy. I also like that Sam's knives are not replicas but rather his own vision inspired by makers like Lile and Craine. BTW: I'm not a shill for him - I just have come to really dig his work :)
