The title says it all!

If you watch it in "full screen" mode you can see the grinding detail. (click the button on the bottom right of the video screen)

The first three minutes are a shop update, grinding starts around minute 3:00.

I hope this helps someone out!

Now you have me debating the relative merits of heat treating before and after doing the bevels for my CPM154. If they're not chisel grinds do you still think it's worth doing the bevels post HT for plate quench stuff?

Man it sure is exciting to see my knife come to life on your grinder! I hope you got the handle material I sent you by now.

Nice video Dan!
Thanks! :D

Great video. I love the smoking hot platen, poor thing.
It gets hot fast at full tension and speed! I need a water cooled one with a big radiator, lol!

Thanks for taking the time to make the video
Much appreciated. :)

I'm not sure if it matters too much either way, I need to do more to decide but even with chisel grinds I get little warping.

I do know that I grind a little more evenly on hardened steel so that is a huge plus, the downside is that I use more belts. The 36 grit really helps cut down on belt use though, I use them to get a lot of the stock removal done.

oh man you make it look so easy!!!
Lol Thanks! :D

Nice! I'll be checking for that teak!

Great video man!
The ricasso tip was awesome that made a huge difference in a hurry.
That alone makes it worth making the video to me, thanks!

Awesome vid. Really hope to see more of these. Thanks for taking the time to post it

Thanks again!
I pulled of my best grind to date last night thanks to you!
Using the 2 step bevel setup was key and then letting it "grind itself" without fussing with it gave me the killer (IMO :) plunge line and of course not messing with the ricasso constantly until the last grit change straightened up that side. I think a common newbie error is thinking its all wrong and over compensating by changing angles a working it too much seeing the bare minimum steps involved from a pro builds confidence that it will be ok in the end.

Thanks! I have a bunch more on my youtube page and have tons more planned!

Great video Daniel, thanks :) New shop looks good also!
Thanks Mike!

That is really cool to hear! Thanks for letting me know, that makes my day! :D

Yea I watched a bunch of them last night! A lot of awesome stuff. Please keep them coming. I really like the tutorial like ones

Thanks Daniel, I think that ricasso tip is going to help my grinding. It appears as if you are touching the blade to belt in the middle of the blade, drawing it back to the plunge and then going out to the tip. Is that correct?

Note the ricasso on the blade , it is the area ( the flat ) between the plunge and handle or bolster . Daniel was cleaning up the plunge grind or and grind radius .

I could be wrong though .

Hi Daniel,

For that "Smoking" platen you might try what I did. I took a heat sink from an old computer and mounted it to the back of the platen. It works well keeping the platen cooler.

Thanks and I will! I already have one planned out... :D

I do that most of the time with my grinding, either that or I will start near the established plunge line and work towards the tip. I also like to go from tip to plunge to ensure a clean plunge line.

So in other words I mix it up depending on what I am trying to do. Thanks!

Cool Vid Daniel!
Much appreciated!

Thanks for clearing that up, I have always interpreted where the ricasso was in different ways according to the books but that does make sense to me.

I appreciate you pointing that out, if it wasn't for helpful information like that I'd still be calling a choil a "cutout thingy". :D

Excellent idea, I have to try that. I have had that platen get so hot it has given me a few serious burns.

off topic but @ 2:56 in your vid I see a Royobi band saw, what do you think of that sucker? I've been thinking about getting that exact model.
