Griptilian

Had the 550, 551, 556, all 440C. Got the Ritter Grip and mini Grip, went through a big knife only phase and got rid of the mini Ritter, now I want one again. The full size Ritter is one of the best knives I own, and I have Striders and CRK's. It holds its own with the big dogs.

I love mine (model 551BKODD2) here is a pic of it taken apart and a pic of it together, lol, and a vid...

I like the Griptilian series....really I do.
But I just can't live with those handles!

If only Benchmade would make a G-10 handle Griptilian, or even an aluminum handle one....:(

They kinda do. It's called the Sequel. BM707.

 you voided the warantee !! :foot:

Your right, lol, I got curious, and wanted to check out the workigns of the axis lock for myself as well as clean the knife...As logn as the reps from BM dont read this thread Im ok, lol, just kidding, I do not see any reason I woudl need to ship it back anytime soon...great knife! :D

I got a sheepsfoot mini grip when they first came out. 440 steel. Works great every time it is put to the test. The griptillian line works so well that it is often overlooked. Borderline boring.

I would tend to go with the stud, because it is less like the "borrowed" Spydeco design,
and were is the stud "borrowed" from? I for myself have stopped wearing trousers, because of the three (THREE!) holes they usually have.

and with the Axis lock, you can easily "flick" the blade open without even using a stud or hole.
True, it is so easy, i would say, the stud is more disturbing :D. I found the 550 to look more like a reptile. Isn´t it the original blade?

Spydies in the same class, come shaper and cut better than Grips with the stock edge. But no one can deny they are great knifes for the money, especially considering the Axis Lock.

The most recent "standard" Grips that I have handled have had excellent edges. On par with my recent Sydies.

I found the mini 550HG to be a far better slicer than any of my Delicas/Enduras, with better ergos. Regarding the small sizes, i prefer the mini Grip to the Delica, although I choose the Endura over the full size Griptilian.
Benchmade has a better locking system, Spyderco's got the edge on steel.

SilenthunterStudios, you would really stack up your 440C 550, 551, 556 Griptilian's, against Strider and Sebenzas?
Take all the time you need to respond, you obviously need some time to "come down" from whatever you're on.
If you still feel that way you can send those unacceptable Sebbies to me and I'll be more than happy to send you a Grip to replace it

While I think a nicer handle would be cool, my mini would no longer be a 2.5oz knife which is one of my favorite things about it.

My 556 came very sharp, but my Caly 3 came quite a bit sharper, very sharp in fact.

I would. I have never owned a Strider, but I have had three Sebs and have sold them all.
I have realised that I don't want a beautifully made knife that I could hammer through the roof of a car. I use a knife to cut, and a Grip will do that quicker, easier, lighter and cheaper than a Seb.

The newer Griptillians are 154cm steel. I would put this steel up against s30v anyday.

Thanks for this great thread  I like my generation 4 delica, but the benchmade has a better lockup, no doubt about it. The 556 I got is very sharp, so I find the steel comparable if not superior than the VG-10 of the spyderco (but there are better informed opinions than mine out there). I find the miniscule vertical blade play on the spyderco irritating (I assume this is a design feature) as somehow I feel weird knowing there will be a slight give on a push cut (no matter if it is a cutting edge). The small, approx. 1/4 inch extra length of handle on the delica (and its shape) makes the grip better for me, but the liners, axis lock and handle material on the benchmade are superlative for this type of folder, imho.

both my wife and i, have EDC mini-griptillian's for the past 4 years or so.... they're great knives... we love em'...:D

i actually just scored a doug ritter mini-griptillian yesterday, in s30v... man, is this thing nice....
