Griptillian G10 handle

I have a 552M2-600 #162 and love the knife. I bought a set of Mr. Wilkins "Griptilikins" in the Forest Green G10 for $160.00 and I'll tell you what, IMO they are worth every penny! These grips turn the already pretty sweet knife into something outstanding. The fit, feel and action are all improved to, dare I say, close to perfection? Well, maybe I am overstating the facts. But I tell you what, if I am overstating facts there is still no denying these "Griptilikins" are definitely in the Ball Park, so to speak. If you are carrying the same knife as me and you think the steel is great but the handle is not all that. Then this upgrade is just what you're lookin' for. It brings the quality level of the handle up to the quality level of the steel. This gives you the whole package.

I have a Ritter Grip (in S30V, not M2) that I am thinking about getting an orange G-10 set to put on it. Just trying to justify the cost.

I never liked the Grip's handle, these G-10 handles are really nice, a bit pricey, but makes me want to save up for a pair and a Grip in M2HS if I could ever find one.

Just keep in mind for anybody who has the Grip Tanto that there hasn't been a griptilikin made for it yet.

man i know ima order me one one of these days. they are jsut plain sexy to me in the orang,e and sheeple friendly. get the orange with the sheepsfoot and ur set:D

I just ordered a set of the olive/tan G11 grips to put on my Ritter Grip, should make a great "semi" custom. Does anyone have the detailed instructions to take the Griptilian apart and reinstall the axis locks properly? Thanks

Mike,

Thanks again for the pictures of the "Griptilikin." It might be the way I can scratch an itch and get a "budget" Wilkins.

kimsalls

To those that have these already, is the G-10 sticky/grippy, or is it polished?

Thanks.

There's enough texture to them to make them slightly "sticky". You can see it in the to picture above. The divots in the grip also provide good purchase.

Thanks for the info. I am sure "sticky" is not the best way to describe it, but I couldn't think of a better term. As an example, I would say the G-10 on an Emerson knife is "sticky," but I have had G-10 from other companies which was more "polished" and not "sticky" at all.

Took me a couple of readings to get this. Pretty true: by the time you get the Griptilikan handle back, it pretty much is a custom knife.

A custom knife you can swap production blades on, for under $60.00 a blade!

I didn't say it was a custom knife. What I was trying to say, is that Kevin Wilkins IS a custom knife maker, and he is the one who is making the upgraded scales. I wasn't saying that you now have a custom knife at all, because it is not. What you DO have is a SCALE upgrade;and therefore a customIZED knife.

Just an FYI. The balance on my Ritter in M2 was always tip heavy. With the new scales the balance is perfect.
J-Roc - they're what I would call semi-sticky. The Divots actually make the knife a little less sticky/ruff when you are putting it in your pocket, on your belt or when you are not gripping tightly. When gripping firmly the divots definitely come into play. Custom or not, I've been a knife nut most of my life and I have found my holy grail with this one.
I wish you all the same fortune.

Agreed! I've always loved the blade shape and axis lock on the sheepsfoot grippy, but was put off by the handles. The new slabs make this one of my favorite folders.

Those add-on scales look great!

But damn, that price is a deal killer for me on that grade knife. :o

Well, as I said before, I am fortunate to have two of the M2 models.
To me, this is the best steel.
It does everything I want my knife to do, the edge lasts and lasts @ razor sharp.
So, I found the grade of steel, I've dreamed of for years, on a plastic handle:(
Now, if I didn't spend the money on making my Ritter M2 perfect.
Then I probably would have just spent it on another knife.
Which, I guess from my perspective, I did.
The improved feel and function of this knife, since the upgrade, is phenomenal. It is a whole "New Knife".
Heck, I think I paid about $160.00 for a brand new Mini Ritter M2, back when they were still making them. That was definitely worth the money!
I liked the M2 steel so much, I had to have the full size Ritter @ $250.00.
Then I watched the Griptilikins for a year, wishing they were less expensive.
Finally, I just broke down got them and now that I have, I have only one regret.
I wish I had done all of this sooner!
Good luck on your search.
