Grohmann knives

Their folding knives look very nice too, I like the fact that the tang/joint is hidden - very pocket friendly - and for being Barehead.

It would be a step forward if they could offer bone, jigged and smooth and some polished micartas would look outstanding on this pattern.

Hello :)
Giving this "dormant" :) thread a little bump to mention that I was fortunate to visit the Grohmann factory/store in Nova Scotia.
It was a very short visit. We were in a big hurry to catch the ferry from Nova Scotia to Prince Edward Island.

I left with their slipjoint in stag. A second for half the price ( reg $ 175 CD, got it from $88 ) .
I told the nice person at the desk if they had any seconds, he said no, but then went inside the factory and came out with one  ( a minor imperfection on the stag, but if he did not point it out I probably would not have noticed it )

The thickness is not the same on the scales but I have seen this on premium knives too, he told me uneven thickness would not be and imperfection as it is a natural material.

We left in a hurry, arrived at the ferry and soon after there were dozens of cars lining up for it. Then the announcement came over the speaker that the ferry was canceled due to mechanical problems. :(
We were told that the next ferry later that day was already full with people with reservations.
So we traveled back trough Nova Scotia and cross into PEI on the bridge.
We arrived at our campsite very tired .... but hey .... I had a knife in my pocket :) :D

Thank you Mike, we are enjoying immensely. Such beautiful part of Canada this is !!!
We are already planning for next year go come again! ! ( you know , visit the factory again with more time, buy me some knives :) )
I love the stag folder I got yesterday!!!
Dan ... in Canada :)

Interesting that this thread popped up... I just last evening ordered a Grohman folder, a Russell mini lockback in carbon steel. I am looking forward to getting it. It looks like a really interesting blade shape, and the handle looks very ergonomic. Plus, being from Nova Scotia/Canada, it will increase my "international" group of knivens.... :)

Fantastic , I hope your enjoy your new knives :)
My mini russell has the most ergonomic handle of all my knives by far
Now you got me thinking about special ordering a carbon blade !

Love that knife. I have 2 of their fixed blades, getting the itch for a Grohmann folder. Is this model much thicker than the rosewood Slimline or no ? I've never seen top view or back spring views online.

Mine is pretty slim, but very comfortable in hand.... I'll get some pics posted tomorrow... gotta turn in for today... 4:25 comes earlier every day, it seems.

Hi W WolfyW , I think the stag version of the slimline folder would be noticeable thicker than the rosewood in most cases.

Your question got me thinking and I went back and zoomed in on the display they had at the factory.

The stag is right above the rosewood slimline and it looks very thick .... same on the other models on the sides of the display.

Also the stag knife on display is bareheaded I think , it has only one bolster. Mine has two.

I had walked in the store set on buying a rosewood slimline.
I could not bring myself to pay full price for the stag version. Also, when I asked my family they all agreed they did not like the stag on the shelf. I did not like the stag on display either but stag is such a personal thing.

It was then that the attendant came out of the factory with a stag " second" and despite the mismatched and uneven scales we all liked it .... also it was 50 % off :) ... and since I have mini Russell in rosewood already I decided to go for the discounted stag.

Mine is actually quite slim, somewhere in between the stag on display and the rosewood version.

Circled in red is the reason they consider a cosmetic flaw and sold it as second ( he assured me it was only cosmetic and not a crack through the whole scale )

Thanks very much for the response and great pics. That answers my question. Gorgeous knife, and in my opinion the mismatch scales are a character bonus. From what I gather they made this line a bareheaded in the past and the double bolsters are the current version. I agree, stag is a personal thing.

I measured my mini rosewood this morning, and it is 4" long, closed, and the width of it from spring to spine, closed, is 1.16", and the thickness of it is almost exactly 1/2". I have pics of all those measurements with my digital caliper, if you want to see them. This is a great feeling knife, and the fatter stag grips will likely make it even that much better.

Thanks for those measurements, too. Admittedly is look at that model as well. So many knives, so little time....

Yes.... this one is worth it, though. A lot of knife for the money, in my opinion.

Looks mighty comfortable in hand. A local guy carried a full line for years until they were all bought up. Should have bought a couple then to save shipping.

I just put in an order for the No 4 Survival. Carbon steel, saber grind, micarta scales. Even though the steel isn't high end, still had to order one after watching The Wooded Beardsman do a review on YouTube.

Great knife! I've got one in stainless. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours. That handle feels great in the hand. Great ergonomics. I enjoy WoodBeard's videos. Here's another Canucker that enjoys his Grohmanns.
