Grohmann knives

I just got the slimline in to go along with my Mini Russell. I have the two blade jack on order, even though it's been stuck at the Halifax post office for over a week, and looking forward to it. Both my folders are not the most polished in F&F (the Mini Russell must have been made on a Friday afternoon or Monday morning) but certainly still usable. The Slimline is just fine but if a person is looking for GEC quality, (or even Case) then these might disappoint. However, as users then I would think Grohmann knives would do the job, just not look pretty while doing it.

I must say that both needed a good sharpening when first out of the box and the Mini Russell actually needed a "re-profile" with the WS and it now holds an edge just fine.

I just ordered a #1. $27 for three-week shipping from the factory, so I looked for an in-country supplier. I trust the llamasery will ship it today.
Saber-ground stainless was what they had, which helped me decide.

Currently, I have only one that I picked up at a Ducks Unlimited dinner. I've used it on ducks, doves, pheasant and deer. It's great. A folder in my future?

Sweet flock of Canadian-style knives !
Thank you. I remember the story of them from way back, but I never saw one to buy in the pre-internet days. Then after I'd given up on creating the ideal woods knife myself, I started trying to design the ideal kitchen knife: continuous belly, offset handle; and I thought, "Hey, this looks familiar", and bought the CS.

I only have a Grohman R350S two blade pocket knife, with Rosewood covers.
Seems nice. Two different length clip points (on the same end) don't make a lot of sense, but oh well. I guess it don't make a lot of sense that I exist, either. :)

EDIT:
I thought Grohman used Krupp 4116 ...

While traveling through Nova Scotia I was very disappointed to find out that the Grohman front store at their factory in Pictou is closed to the public. Their website states that only online orders are being processed at present time.
When I called them to confirm I was told it was due to a lack of human resources.

The day before arriving in Pictou I called again from the hotel and found out, much to my delight, that curbside pick up is still available :)
I promptly placed and order for 4 knives. A # 104 mini skinner in stag and 3 seconds at 50 % off  ( #1 stainless, # 2 carbon and a slipjoint )

We arrived with very little time to spare to pick them up and go take the ferry into Prince Edward Island.

Yeah :)

The number one was marked as "second" for this small mark on the handle

I can not find anything wrong with the slip joint, the blade is just a tiny bit narrower than on my other Grohman slipjoint.

The # 2 ( bird and trout) in carbon, flat ground, is overall a smaller knife than my stag # 2 in stainless that I got last year. The neck, handle width, blade width are narrower and there is a slight recurve at the heel.

Flat grinds in carbon knives are special orders only ( extra $25) and are done on a per order basis.
I am not sure how mine ended up being designated as a “second” but I do like it 👍 and even more at 50 % off 😊. The are zero defects in the handle of mine. This " little" knife feels great in the hand !

Nice!
Because you are Dan, I have to assume you caught that fish - or maybe you sang to it or something and it jumped into the bucket by itself 🤣.

Hope you guys are enjoying your vacation and that it proves therapeutic .

Thank you Tom 😀
Best smoked haddock ever !!!
Bought it from the fishermen that catch them for a living … I did not have to sing to the fish or the fishermen 🤓

I wanted to go fishing with them 😊 ( some offer that for a fee , and they even clean your catch) but they only start taking tourists on fishing trips after July 1

Now they are into lobsters 🦞

Nice collection!! That Haddock is making me peckish!! Sounds like you are having a good time, Dan!! I got to go into the store, but way back in 2016; they were quite low in stock back then - you did really well!!

Really like what you picked up, fish too

I'm very fond of the flat grind Bird&Trout type I have, a really useful outdoors knife, and a looker too.

Enjoy your holiday time.

Thanks, Will

Thank you Charlie 😊

I am very happy with my Nova Scotia loot 😎
I love Grohmann iconic Canadian knives 🇨🇦 and I hope they can continue in business for many years to come.

The smoked fish is delicious 😋
I’ll buy a few pounds tomorrow to take home

Thank you Will 😊

I agree, I also LOVE the bird and trout 👍
The number 1 original feels great too.

We are planning to keep a # 1 and a # 2 on our kitchen counter at home and dedicate them for some our food prep.

They will remind us of our wonderful trip and be useful too.

The number 1 will chop the potatoes 🥔 while the number 2 will peel them 😀

Awesome haul of loot. Really like the stag, so I just may have to break down and buy a slimline or double bladed jack with stag covers. At half price of course.
