GSO 3.5 question

Nope, not a fac. second.
Curious to know if others have the same thing, that's the 3.5's from two weeks ago.
That is exactly how mine from that same period arrived. Mine was not a 2nd either.
It doesn't bother me. Excellent knife, amazing grind and sharpening consistency!

Doesn't bother me either, however if I was a knife maker or knife company... I'd want my company logo/makers mark/info etc. to stand out and be as clear and visible as possible.
Thanks for letting me know you received one the same way and it's not a Fac. 2nd.

You guys are lucky to get them so soon. I'm still waiting for mine to be shipped.

I wouldn't worry too much about the etching. In fact, I actually wouldn't even mind a sterile blade and might even like it :)

Same here - the "PHT" is almost completely gone. Not a deal breaker but I didn't order a factory second..

Well, that makes 3 people so far with the same experience with the recently received 3.5's.
(which were not purchased as Fac. 2nd's)
Don't know if Survive sends them out to get laser etched, or it's done in house, obviously there's an issue with the etching process.
Again, if I was a knife maker I'd want my company logo/makers mark/info etc. to stand out and be as clear and visible as possible.

Got some better photos? The ones last page have a thumb shadow makes it a littlehard to see. Just curious if it was like a one batch thing.

Those blades were done on a CO2 laser engraver because that is the only kind of laser engraver we could find at our new location. We knew it wasn't the same as what we used in the past but we had expected it to be tougher than it is. The GSO-4.1s that will be in stock were also done on the CO2 but at a slower speed so those look a bit darker. Still not ideal. Fortunately, thanks to you folks and the SURVIVE! Starter, Guy is literally at the bank right now to wire transfer funds for our own machine. Future engraving will be done in house, in the old "etched" style.

That's too bad about the CO2 laser vs etched versions. Had I known that, I would have held off buying 2 more knives. It's not a big deal but when were talking about Guys high standards of not letting anything ship before its perfect...I just would have waited until the issue was worked out. That's all. Still a huge fan and user and always will be.

There is quite a second hand market for Survive! knives and I do not think that the darkness of the logo will affect the chances of them selling. Then you can wait till the next batch is released.

Got'cha, I agree about the second hand market for S!K and I agree that whether the logo is quite faint so much so that the "T" in 'PHT' (Peters Heat Treat) can't even be seen "may" not effect a possible resale.
Although there are some buyers that will question a knifes authenticity due to faint or illegible logos.

But as I did mention that it has no detrimental effect on the 3.5's performance... put yourself in the knife makers place, that is if you were a knife maker, you would definitely want your logo/signature a.k.a. "makers mark" to appear clearly and "legibly" on your knives, that's my point.
I know if I was a knife maker, I'd want my "makers mark" as clear and legible as possible.

I'll take a pic of my GSO 4.1's logo and a pic of the logo in question on my newly received GSO 3.5 and post them together for a simple to understand view of how obvious the difference is.

Logo + steel type + PHT on my GSO 4.1

Logo + steel type "CPM-20CV"? + "PHT"? on my newly received "GSO 3.5

I'll bet this etching deal is driving Guy nuts, and is soon solved. If I were the maker I wouldn't like it one bit, however, and I am speaking strictly for myself here, as a buyer that has one of these 3.5's on the way I actually think it's going to be cool to place these particular 3.5s as some of the first to come out of the Idaho facility after the move. The logo may actually increase the collector value of these, not for me as mine will be a user.

It is a bit of a pain, but not on the scale of say...incorrectly heat treated Elmax on a $300 dollar folder (and they did not even recall the batch from memory).

Thanks for addressing the issue.
Much appreciated.
